Need Help: 6.5 Speaker won't fit front door
Need Help: 6.5 Speaker won't fit front door
Ok, so I bought a Soundstream component speaker 6.5, which is what the size is stated for a 1999 honda civic ex sedan. I took out factory speaker and tried to fit this in the slot. The diameter of the speaker is about 1/3 of inch bigger than the factory speaker, which make it not fit. The depth is not the problem, the diameter of the speaker is. Speaker expands wide that I have to cut where the speaker-cover clips on to. I haven't cut yet.
How would i go about modifying the front door speaker port so I can mount the 6.5 soundstream speaker in as well as use the speaker-cover so it looks stock?
I appreciate any help in advance!

I'll snap some pics of what I did in my '02 later to give you ideas
Re: Need Help: 6.5 Speaker won't fit front door
I did the same thing, bought 6.5's. When I realized they wouldn't fit and keep the stock covers I ended up going with 5.25 speakers and building a custom housing for them
Re: Need Help: 6.5 Speaker won't fit front door
AWW MAN! So the 5.25 fits nicely with lil mod and you can still use the speaker-cover? I wish I knew earlier, I cant return these. Does anyone want Soundstream 6.5 components for 45 plus shipping Brand NEW??? My lose your gain.

Sorry man.. wasn't able to snap pictures today.. I'm doing an oil/tranny fluid change tomorrow, so during the draining phase, I'll rip apart my door panel and show you how my 6.5's fit in my EM2.
Would you be able to take pictures of what you mean by your last post?

crazy idea that you might not like, but I plan on mounting my 7" midbass (huge magnet) by removing the map pocket/speaker pod and building a new baffle in its place. Good luck...I know I will need plenty.

Re: Need Help: 6.5 Speaker won't fit front door
as promised, pictures

Got a spacer kit necessary to fit deeper speakers (I'm running alpine type-r's, SPR-17C). Max allowable depth without the spacer is 1.75, I believe. The depth of these speakers are 2.5". If you look at the rust (yes, I know I need to fix that.. lol), that's where I dremeled out to fit the speaker.

The spacer fits in the clip-holes (I guess you'd call them) in the OEM locations. 2 clips on the bottom and 1 screw up top.
Get creative with it, man

Re: Need Help: 6.5 Speaker won't fit front door
i put 6.5 speakers in my doors in my 2000 sedan my after market speaker had litle metal clip around on the sides making the speaker not fit so i snipped them of and fits liek a charm but only one screw one screw holds it and must be tightend about every 4 months because the bass from my subs loosens it up and makes it rattle but other then that its all good !
Re: Need Help: 6.5 Speaker won't fit front door
i made a mistake cutting the bottom piece of my cover
then i made another mistake by cutting the cuppling behind the speaker
where the sound reflex off and prevent water from getting into ur speaker
i went through 2 pairs of speaker already cuz of water getting in
and creating massive rust.
use wat u can, like spacers, adapters, or watever they have to make ur speaker fit.
i use the same speaker and put it in my friend sedan and it sounded way better, on top of that im using 4 channel amp
im guessing the back cuppling help push the sound out, now my back speaker sound louder than the front

Re: Need Help: 6.5 Speaker won't fit front door
Sorry guys, was gone for a whole week. Went to Vegas.
Thanks XRiceboyX, for the pictures. Your front door speaker mount is different from my 99 civic sedan door speaker mount. Mine mounts on the door pod piece. Yours looks like it mounts on the metal frame door. I will post a picture of it asap. Its 1am now.
Marek91, i seriously thought about cutting the metal surround on my 6.5 to make it fit, but thats what is holding part of the rubber surround of the speaker together. I dont want to weaken the glued rubber to the metal.
Asianboy, you can use a baffle box insert to protect your speaker from the rain since you cut the speaker port backing. This is what it looks like: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_237XT65...h.html?tp=2809
Thanks everyone, I just bought 5.25 speakers co-axial, which isnt as good as my 6.5 component. But most important to me is to be able to upgrade my speakers and keeping the factory door panel speaker cover
Anyone need brand new 6.5 Component set from Soundstream for 45.00 plus shipping? Pickup preferred. From Anaheim, CA 92806 zip code.
