Harsh downshift during uphill climb

hi guys.. i have a 2000 Civic - EXI (D15Z4 Engine) with conventional 4 speed automatic. lately i have noticed that during a uphill climb the AT downshifts harshly with a bit of a delay as well.....

the ATF has been changed on time, the car pulls well & downshift is smooth when driving on a level surface......

what could be the issue here ?

What fluid was used? I noticed rougher shifting in my Civic and my wife's Accord with non-Honda ATF along with increased wear (many times the amount normally on the drain plug magnet).

i used the genuine ATF from the agent....the shifting is smooth except when I'm going up-hill & it down-shifts

Re: Harsh downshift during uphill climb

That's most likely a feature of the transmission as it has grade logic. It's a noticable shift instead of almost imperceptible.

Re: Harsh downshift during uphill climb

It's most noticable because of the large change in gear ratios from 3-2...and is only sometimes due to ideal conditions for them. I'd say it's normal, but I'm not sure how bad you are talking either.

I'd go back to the 5G always harsh shifting in a heartbeat.

Re: Harsh downshift during uphill climb

A thud may be indicative of a broken motor mount. Check them all out, it may be the entire problem.
