Swimming Pool in Trunk!

Hey Guys and Gals,
I have a 97 EX Coupe (Automatic and i drive normal) and I've got 2 issues, 1 of which I've found several other posts about and this one not so many.
First of all my gas mileage has dropped big time, I used to get about 350/tank and it's dropped to about 240. I've had a full tune up (cap rotors wires plugs timing fuel injector service) and it's getting worse.
The big issue is after a rain storm I opened my trunk and found the carpet on the floor was soaked. The side and top of trunk were bone dry. I pulled the spare and saw no holes or anything so i'm guessing it's the trunk seal. It looks ok to me, no cracks or tears so if you guys have any ideas i would apprecaite it.

Re: Swimming Pool in Trunk!

Your car sounds just like mine! Tho my mileage is worse. 190/tank . I had a leak in my trunk and I fixed it pretty easily. My leak was coming from the rain diverters on the roof. I took my out and followed it back all the way to the rearwindow. I lifted up the black trim a little bit and found a little hole (supposed to be there). Poured water directly into it and sure enough it was the problem. So I just plugged up the hole with heavy duty syclicone and the problem is fixed. I can send pics if you can't find where I'm talking about. Hope this helps. If not just try pouring water in individual spots and see where the leak is coming from.

A few common areas, the tail lights can leak esp the one on the trunk lid check those. Pull the carpet on both sides of the trunk and check the sun roof drain tubes the make sure they are placed in the to the rubber boot going out the side bumper. There are 2 in the back and 2 in the front of the car for a total of 4. Another area can be the channel where the rear quarter panel meets the opening of the trunk, pour water on there and see if water seeps in the trunk.

Here are some pics. The passenger side is the one that leaked. I can't remove it because of the seal but the I took off the drivers side one to show you. I hope that helps. This is the first time adding photos so I hope I did it right.

Thanks, I tried that but mine is lower. Typically that is a sealed around the window, I'm surprised that stopped your leak. But like you said the hole is supposed to be there, it runs water around the window down to the trunk.
