SOHC virgin
Hi all, I got myself a 96 civic coupe 1.6sr (d16y8)
Its a little rice at the moment but I am working my way through mechanical probs etc before I start on the cosmetics.
I have mainly drove crx's for the last 10yrs but needed the extra space the coupe affords me.
Previous owner damaged front ball joint, tie arm and alloy wheel. All now sorted
Only mechanical niggle I have left is a threaded sump which is causing me to spot oil all over the place
Plans are lowering, lighter wheels, intake, tints etc.
Nice website guys keep up the good work.

Car looks to be clean sir. The bottom car was made on your side of the pond in Swindon
. I drove one the day before the 01 Si was released in the USA. Fine driving car. Anyway, welcome aboard!

Thanks for the replies gents.
The 02 hatch I had was a decent enough car, just had no guts.
I much prefer driving the coupe, which didnt cost me half what the hatch did.
heres my old rex

sadly now in that great scrapyard in the sky.
I seem to have a thing for black and shiny lol

I agree on the 15's
Even proper race tires are 15" on a Civic to save weight.
That CRX was super clean. Sorry you lost it! The 2nd generation (like yours) in the Si trim was my first Honda lust and sadly I never had one.

Re: SOHC virgin
Got some 15 inch compomotive alloys, bit dirty but will do for now, car feels
way sharper, also fixed my leaky sump nut and both my electric
windows now work as honda intended

I am now looking for a decent rear lip, dont want no sideskirts, these are best IMO
and before you say it, I know it needs lowering
Suggestions for decent solution under $200 most welcome.

Re: SOHC virgin
Sub $200 USD? I'd say the only choice you have is Eibach Pro Kit for decent quality. The only thing I don't think is great is the odd feeling of the rear being slightly unsettled but it's minor.

Re: SOHC virgin
better pics

I had threaded my sump, where the drain nut goes in. It was leaking oil, I fixed it by inserting a helicoil.
I had probs with both my elec windows not travelling correctly in their rubber channels. These are now sorted.
Scott, do you mean the eibachs will make the back end feel weird, If so whats the next best set that doesnt feel bad?, my budget is not set in stone.

Re: SOHC virgin
DW: slightly unsettled mid-turn in the rear. But I'm very particular (done a LOT of road course events). I am very partial to linear rate springs due to better feedback. Ground Control might be a better solution for you if you like variable rate (like OEM) and it will give you height adjustability.
They also sell the race type linear rates (in even 25 pound increments) if you specifically ask. Those are what I run (ERS, ie: Eibach Racing Spring) in my coupe. The rates I run are 375 pound front/275 pound rear with Koni yellow dampers(rebound adjustable only). That is basically a low budget road course set up and is what I ran a 1'52" at Laguna Seca my first time there.
If you've not got a lot of high performance driving experience or are worried about ride quality but want linear springs, I'd suggest going with 325 front/200 rear with some proper dampers like KYB AGX so you can adjust to your liking. Koni's will be more cost prohibitive.
Hope that helps! If not, post and I'll go into more detail as needed.

Re: SOHC virgin
Scott: Thanks for the info, TBH I wont be racing/tracking my car, other than the odd traffic light race lol. from what you have said, I think the Eibach kit will suffice.
Most of your post flew over my head
but gives me something to think about and look into.
Thanks

Re: SOHC virgin
I still have the 17s, One of them is slightly buckled and will lose its air from the rim seal if you hit any bumps, I am in the process of getting this repaired.
The area I live in is riddled with bad roads and speed bumps, the 17s were horrible for day to day driving, jarring your innards is the phrase that comes to mind. They do look sweet, I agree but to drive I prefer the smaller 15s.
Maybe 16s would be the best compromise

Re: SOHC virgin
DW, sorry I got a bit deep there. Been into this for 13 years
. Yes, stick with the Eibach Pro Kit and get some proper dampers.
I'm not a fan of 16's or up on the Civics. Too much weight and it's too drastic of a change in horsepower to the ground.
