i have a 96 ex coupe. i bought it with an aftermarket radio. the keyless entry doesn't work, b/c i'm 99% sure that the signal is transmitted into the OEM radio. So, im just wondering how every gets around this when they add a new stero. Thanks

Re: Keyless Entry Problem
more than likely a radio harness plug that's less than 20 dollars can be put in there.
but someone may have cut the old one out so a junkyard could yield a new one, but wherever you buy your plug for the aftermarket radio, the opposite plug may be available. does this make sense, it's late here
the factory radio plug that went to the back of the stock radio was probably cut off, and the new radio got wired straight to the old honda harness. a few wires like the keyless entry wires not needed for the radio to work were probably left alone, and sense havent worked. radio plugs are sold so you don't have to cut your stock honda harness and you can plug in a new plug and wire the new plug to the radio and make everything still work.
it's more crucial on new cars where there isn't an accessory "ignition" wire, instead a serial data bus wire controls that function, turning the radio on. many wires contain 2 or more functions, very complex, so a plug would be necessary there for sure.

To answer your question, yes the keyless does utilize the radio for operation in the 96's. Your best bet is to get an aftermarket alarm and then you can easily use the factory wiring for the keyless.
Hope that helps.
