My wife got a 2000 civic lx for christmas from her father as a wedding gift this christmas! There is absolutely nothing wrong with it besides the rear speakers dont work...and know the interior lights dont work! We got a pioneer 3000 cd player for it and the wiring harness. I installed it and spliced all the wires but there were two wires extra on the harness I bought. A orange wire that says illumination and a orange and white wire that says dimmer. First I thought mabye to splice them together since they were ''extra''. that must have blown a fuse cause the illumination or courtesy lights on the needles and gauges dont work. I called a stereo shop and they said to cap off those two wires seperatly and change the fuses for illum. and it would fix it. I did that but no luck! please help me! Thanks

replace your dimmer switch. You fried it by hooking the two orange wires together.

Is this the wheel on the dash? to the left of the steering wheel?

Most of the times you are going to have extra wires that are for features that new HU don't use. You should also have another wire left over for like antenna as well I think. They should have been left alone so check your fuses since you hooked them together.
