i think i just got dupped when i bought my civic

I test drove a 97 civic ex earlier in the day. It seemed fine, the mechanical and drivetrain seemed fine. Even the a/c worked.

Then I decided to buy and picked up the car in the evening afterwork. I drive it home and now the fan adjuster (slider) for the heater and a/c doesn't work. Nor do the buttons light up. The backlight is on though. The side mirrors are dead too.

Is this a common electrical short that i can easily fix, or do i need a thorough electrical diagnostic check by honda or can any mechanic with a computer check?

Someone's got to know. After all my hard work and searching for a civic, i settle with a possible lemon
