Speedo Not Working: Any Ideas
Speedo Not Working: Any Ideas
I have a 2001 EX and I am asking this question for my friend who has a 2000 EX. Does anyone know any solutions to fixing a malfunctioning speedometer. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. This ever happened to anyone before?
Re: Speedo Not Working: Any Ideas
Could be a bad connection at the VSS or the VSS is going bad. Also the the wire harness plug for the speedo could be loose on the back of the cluster. Finally, you can get erratic speedo if there's a ground problem. Check the neg battery cable and the ground wire onthe thermostat housing.
Re: Speedo Not Working: Any Ideas
I had this happen last summer to my 98. After replacing the speed sensor, and the instrument cluster, I ended up taking it to the dealer.
The mechanic told me he could guess right away what it was. Where the wire harness goes through the fire wall, it had rubbed through the insulation, on one of the wires. They did the diagnostics, and repaired it.
It was in the $90 dollar range.
But that is something to look into. He said it wasn't that uncommon, as he had done this repair a few times.
