Lookin for a stage 1 cam for a D17A

I picked up a D17A from Japan to replace my D17A1.
I just covered up the v-Tec solenoid and everything else plugged up. The car runs nice and smooth. But it almost feels like I’m lacking power compared to my A1. I’m gonna pick up a stage 1 camshaft. I read all these posts talking about swapping an A2 head on to an A1 block... I don’t understand why. The D17A head is the Japanese version of the A2 head. So am I good for that cam? Or do I gotta run that V-Tec with it?

VTEC swaps cam timing to give (low end mileage and torque) or (higher rpm power) on demand.

Plugging it up simply stuck it in one mode..

just having the Vtec mechanism will not make the vtec work - it need to have the right controller.

did you just do mechanical or did you do the ECU, wiring, etc?

having an athlete body will not do until you get the athlete brain

I’m not looking for vtec. My car never had it. Just wondering if I can cam it up or not
