Can you cut the catalytic converter off the d17 header and have a flange welded on to make D.C. Sports 4-1 header fit with stock cat instead of changing to ex full exhaust on my dx ? With being able to pass smog

That can't pass the California smog check visual inspection IMO

Re: D17 can you cut the header off the catalyst

First: what state emissions?

Second: I'm guessing you have a dx or lx? If so, don't cut and weld. Just convert to an ex exhaust setup. If you're in Cali, don't even bother

Re: D17 can you cut the header off the catalyst

First, you would need the whole EX exhaust for this to work. Second, you wouldn’t see much benefit even if this did work. Third, you’ll fail any emissions test if you delete the cat. And fourth, there are catless D17A1 headers available if you insist. My suggestion would be swap to an entire EX exhaust or don’t bother.

Re: D17 can you cut the header off the catalyst

cut cat out the header, weld tubes to make a EX like header and add EX cat?

much easier to get EX setup.

question would be: why do you want to do it? You will likely need the EX setup from the header on.

lots of used parts around.
