cut bumpstops or cut the rubber on the dust covers?

inputs appreciated, some say dust covers and others might say its the hitting of the bumpstops. and yea i researched and searched for all the info and its differeing. just wondering whats better, cuz im getting it done tomorrow morning. they said if they cut the bumpstops it would bottom the car out and it would cause it to hit the body. if i cut the dust boot covers, they said it mght lower the car. is this right or are they wrong. im confused, someone enlighten me. oh and yea, the problem i have is this noise when ig o over dips and bumps on the right side only. they said they have to cut both sides, not just one side. and yea, before they took some oil or something and they sprayed all the bearings and stuff and most of the noise went away for like a day. so does that mean its not the dust boot covers and its something else or is it? thanx.

The dust boot isn't holding anything up... so cutting it won't lower the car. Don't cut the bumpstops.

PS- if the shop is that dumb, find a different one.

the bump stops keep the pistion of the shocks/struts from completely bottoming out
Cutting them could totaly fudge them up if you ever bottom out.
the bump stops are a safe guard.

It is suggested to cut the bumpstops on some coilovers, but are you cutting the stock bumpstops? I would suggest not to. However, boilermaker is right, it won't lower your car any.

alot of peeps with the coil over were saying that the dust cover can rub on the body of the coilovers and make noise. So to combat that some people cut the dust covers a little.

Go by what the manufacturer recommends. For example, Goldline recommends you trim the bumpstop. If you dont, you'll bottom out on the bumpstop. For my Eibach sportlines I trimmed mine down an inch.

With sportlines and either tokicos or stock struts, the car will rest on the front bumpstops constantly if they are not trimmed. I think it is best to trim.

yeah, my goldlines installation paper said to trim bumpstop 1" fr, and 1.75" rr, could be the other way around. Some vehicles you are not supposed to trim them, but with ours you are supposed to for most setups I believel I also have tokico HPs, and the directions said do not cut bumpstop, but the goldlines said to, so I did. Works perfect.

i'm on neuspeed sports and my front end is constantly resting on my oem bumpstops. i didn't hear it in the summer but now that it's freezing out the cold must have stiffened the rubber and it squeaks. i know because i can hear them compressing, making an annoying rubberish squeaking noise when i go over speedbumps or inclines. i need to trim them this summer. is it ok to drive like this? it's not going to damage my suspension is it?

I have Eibach Pro Kit, and did not cut anything. I haven't had any problems so far.
