To cut or not to cut
To cut or not to cut
Okay well I couldn't find much information on cutting your shifter, to make it shorter that is.
I was wondering if it's a good idea to do this, and if anyone has done this, as much info would be helpful.
Also, whats the difference between a shift adaptor and short shifter?
thanks

I'm pretty sure that's what short shifters do...

Dont the short throw shifters come with some linkage which is actually what makes the "throws" shorter in length??? Cutting the stock shifter, I think is only going to make your shifter shorter in height and wont help you much.

I've done both. I bought a short shift adapter on ebay for $25 shipped, installed it and then decided how much to cut out of the shifter. I used my dad's recip saw to cut 2" out of the shifter, then took it to my friend who welded it for free.
The big decrease in throw came from moving the cable attachment (the point of linkage attach) higher on the shifter. Cutting the shifter shorter may reduce the throw a little, but not much (less than a quarter inch). I measured: stock= 5" throw
adapter= 3" throw
adapter & cut shifter= 3" throw
Cutting the shifter is mainly for looks. If you do, don't cut to close to the threads for the shift ****, and keep the ball joint and base from getting hot while welding. I wrapped mine with wet towels.
I also shortened my shift boot.
As for the revo, it looks to me like an oem piece with the cable mount moved higher on the shifter. But that's without seeing it in person, I've only seen pics of it.
