LX/DX head swap to EX vtech...

Well ive been thinking about doing a swap, but the thing that bothers me is the vtech thing, you gotta run another "computer" or wtv that is from the DIY thread, but wouldn't work if i'd just get the ecu from a EX? or would that imply getting a key reflash? i mean isnt there a easier way then getting that vtech controller thing?? thanks

No, there isn't an easier way, because the lx/dx ecu has no capability of controlling vtec.

You either get the vtec controller or an ex ecu and reflash, the less expensive and simpler method being the vtec controller.

The ecu might be free, but reflashing it is not and neither is the tow to a dealership willing to do it.

It's not plug and play, you still to wire in the vtec system.

Re: LX/DX head swap to EX vtech...

u have either two options

ex head, ex ecu, reflash, and ex harness...then the 02 senors on the ex harness are on a different place i think.. because the ex cat is under the car
also make sure the harness is the same year as the ecu

or

ex and vafc2

ur choice

btw i did this not to long ago and i did option 2

Starting a car with an immobilizer without a key isn't as easy as crossing two wires....

Re: LX/DX head swap to EX vtech...

The VAFC is discontinued I believe...but if you find one it will probably be around $150-$200 used, or about $300-$350 new, and It's not too hard to wire, provided you are a decent solderer and follow the wiring diagram correctly.

Re: LX/DX head swap to EX vtech...

So do what you want... They gave u their opinion but u kept kinda shutting it down. If youre selling your car soon dont bother putting the ex head on. Its not a turbo so u wont be going 20 times faster, and it wont bring the value of your car up, so just dont bother with it. My 2 cents
