Where is the Vtec Oil Pressure Switch on 2005s?

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me where Vtec Oil Pressure Switch is for a Honda Civic EX 2005. I am getting a P2646 error and it looks like this is the culprit.

its bolted to the bottom of vtec solenoid behind the engine head. has a connector plugged into it and a white stripe (not the cylinder piece on top).

the car doesn't "need" vtec to run, if you don't miss it just leave it.

check your fuses, my friend had a half broken fuse that made his ac stay on even when the car was off, killing his battery, lol. they wanted to replace the whole ac system for $1400. but then he found the fuse on his own and it cost only a buck or two.

Thank you for the picture from the manual!

Can anyone give me a better idea of where it is in the engine? A farther away picture would be great...

Thanks!

Between the valve cover and intake. Take off the air cleaner and you'll see it.

Here's a pic of the VTEC solenoid:

Okay, so it looks like I may be replacing the solenoid switch and/or the solenoid filter depending on the problem...

It looks like #12 in this diagram is the switch:

Does that look right?

I'm hoping not to have to drop another $300 at the mechanic after the last $300 I paid to have the engine light diagnosed and the screen cleaned.

Thanks!

Yes, #12 is the switch. #10 is the filter

Re: Where is the Vtec Oil Pressure Switch on 2005s?

So I took a small crack at seeing if I could get to the solenoid last night, I started by trying to take all the bolts out which held down the plastic air pieces (Not sure what they are called, but it eventually connects to the air filter housing). Anyway, I couldn't locate all the bold holding that stuff down (I did not open the air filter area, just tried to take it all off at once). I got out 6 bolts, but something seemed to be still holding it all down in the area of the air filter.

I also noticed the solenoid switch is no longer clipped to the metal post, but is hanging free in there, but I couldn't quite reach it to put it back on. It was still connected, so I don' think that had anything to do with my problems.

Anyway, any hints on removing the big black plastic air (intake?) thing? Does it all need to come off? Is it all one piece?

Thanks!

Re: Where is the Vtec Oil Pressure Switch on 2005s?

there are two pieces, the big resonator box and the filter box. the filter box has a stealth ring clamp hiding underneath that holds it to the engine throttle body. there are also a couple of hidden bolts for the resonator down deep at the bottom. if you go to summitracing.com and look up an aftermarket air intake for your car, it will have downloadable install info that shows how to take the factory stuff out.

Re: Where is the Vtec Oil Pressure Switch on 2005s?

Hi guys

My oil light is flickering when my car idles when I rev the car it goes away until the revs drop. When I drive I cannot rev past 4000 rpms it's like I hit the limiter. BTW I have the 2005 honda civic ex si (1.7 vtec).
1. Is it a oil pressure sensor
2. Is it a bad oil pump
3. Is it a bad vtec oil pressure sensor
Or maby a different issue, my oil level is fine.
Can you guys please help me out.
Thank you
