ebay 01 civic parts
Re: ebay 01 civic parts
what do you mean by 'good?' you need to show us what you are looking at exactly. and why would how it looks matter? its under the car and you would never ever see it.

Re: ebay 01 civic parts
resonator test pipe? resonator is not the cat. its the canister looking part after the cat that controls noise. the cat is closer to the engine and is much larger with a double heat shield around it.

show us what you are looking at so we can see.
i think you are confusing the catalytic converter with the resonator. if you have a downpipe, it will have the cat converter attached, not the resonator. the resonator is later on down the exhaust system (about half way) and its just a bit before your muffler.
your exhaust system goes in this order: header > downpipe > cat converter > more piping > resonator > more piping > muffler.

Re: ebay 01 civic parts
yeah that deletes the cat converter. it goes from the header to the catback piping. not a great idea unless you like polluting and your car wont pass smog if its required where you live.
Re: ebay 01 civic parts
that is completely garbage. you will get no power from that at all and it will do nothing but cause problems for you. you will have emissions test problems like gearbox said, and again it will give you NO extra power.
they also have it advertised wrong. that is a 'downpipe with catalytic converter replacement' not a 'resonator test pipe'. also, its no name brand, and if someone selling it doesnt even know the proper function, you think you should buy it? not a chance. even the best downpipe replacements (like the randomtech downpipe or a megan racing) give you maybe 2 hp in total and i doubt a no name garbage one like that will even come close to comparing to one of those.

Re: ebay 01 civic parts
does anyone sell just the downpipe for an EX, that replaces the stock part? cause when i had it apart, it seems that even tho the outer diameter looks huge like my aftermarket exhaust, there is actually a tiny pipe inside the big one thats maybe only 1 3/4 inch. so i think a new downpipe would help quite a bit. but not one that deletes the cat.
Re: ebay 01 civic parts
so youre saying that the stock downpipe (which itself is 2 1/2" i think on the outside) actually has a smaller pipe inside that your exhaust travels through? i had no idea. i would put money on it saying it is actually 1 3/4" inside since that would be the same size as your stock exhaust piping.
i know nobody has ever complained about the random tech downpipe, and it passes emissions. also megan makes one that isnt very expensive, but im not too sure how it goes over with emissions...i would assume it passes them as well. as for getting one that has a cat that functions as good as stock, i dont think there is one.

Re: ebay 01 civic parts
ah okay. yeah the stock dp definately is not 2.5 inch like it appears. i thought at first wow why is their catback pipe so tiny and such a huge dp size, but after taking it apart you can see its a much smaller pipe inside. maybe for heat insulation or something. i wonder if theres a way to cut out the inner pipe, but i saw welding so prolly wont be easy to gut it. and yeah i want to keep the oem cat.
Re: ebay 01 civic parts
i always wondered the same about the dp being way bigger, it makes sense now but now it also makes me want to get another dp, but i think both the rt dp and the megan dp are both 2 1/4" outlets, and my catback is 2 1/2" and im not going to change my catback. oh well.
supermike, im guessing you have a stock exhaust system, so no i dont think you can change just the resonator. i dont remember off the top of my head, but i think its welded to the piping itself, and the piping only unbolts at the muffler and downpipe flange. you would probably have purchase the whole system from the dealership to replace the entire catback piping if they even sell them which i wouldnt count on.
why do you want to replace just the resonator?

Re: ebay 01 civic parts
my RSR exhaust does not have resonator, but the muffler weighs a ton 50lbs compared to stock 15 lbs. if you delete the stock resonator, you will have very bad sounding exhaust because stock muffler was designed to be used with resonator.

Re: ebay 01 civic parts
ah okay. you may want to get prices from a muffler shop to make you a custom pipe without a resonator. tell them you want a bolton version tho not welded together. that way you can take it off later if you get a different exhaust. but the cheapest and easiest way is for them to chop off the resonator and weld in a straight pipe of the same size.

Re: ebay 01 civic parts
prolly one of the best is apexi wsII, but its really quiet. if you want loud (bad idea if youre in cali), skunk2 can be heard from several blocks away. a good compromise is the greddy exhausts like evo2. thermal and rsr tend to be too heavy. altho i love the stealth look of the rsr.
Re: ebay 01 civic parts
if you do what gearbox is saying it shouldnt be too expensive for them to just cut the pipe on both sides of the resonator to drop it out, and weld a regular piece of pipe in place. probably about 100$ or less. if you do that it will still be a waste of money because you are still using a garbage factory exhaust piping that barely has enough room to breathe as it is.
your best bet is to go with an aftermarket catback system. they all bolt in place and can be installed (if you dont run into any problems) in about an hour or two depending on experience and tools. every system is different in sound and in price. overall you have to decide how much you want to spend. if money is no object, you can go with many many options as already mentioned. youre looking at spending between 400-800 in that case. if you are on a tight budget, you can get the same catback system that me and a few other guys have (tsudo n1) for around $250 shipped now. when i first got this system i think it costed almost $400. its almost half that price now. its up to you and what you want to spend.
