i was just wondering how one might happen to pull off leds in the cup holders...has anybody done it?

Tap them to the accessor/cig lighter power.. wire a switch to wherever if you want.. drill some small holes in the cup holder and wire the LED's. Simple. Only tricky part is if you pick individual LEDs vs a pre fabbed string is the resistance

I have one in each cup section, they are on the shifter side facing forward so you can't see the distraction of the bare LED. They come on when car is on.

Don't run the power to the cig lighter. That circuit is designed to pull very little amperage and while led's don't draw much its still better to put them on a dedicated circuit. I'm assuming you actually know how to the wiring. As for how to mount the leds. Get a few led holders, drill ~3 holes in the bottom of the cup holder, put the led holders and led's in there. Then take a round piece of acrylic and sand the bottom of it with 600 ish grit or higher paper to frost it. Then lay it over the leds. It will make it glow but keep the glare out of your eyes.
