Insturment Panel will not illuminate

After replacing my battery I learned that my Instrument cluster would not illuminate, so I was about to try to drive not able to see any of my gauges. Anyone have any suggestions on what might be the problem or know what fuses
are involved.

Re: Insturment Panel will not illuminate

First, did u turn the dial on the cluster to full?

Second, under your steering wheel, pop off that cover and look for the instrument panel fuse, yank it out with the fuse puller in the engine bay fuse box and see if its broken.

Good luck.

Re: Insturment Panel will not illuminate

I turned the contrast all the way up to full nothing happened and I couldn't find which fuse would affect it.

Re: Insturment Panel will not illuminate

Okay I checked out the Small Lamp Fuse, as expected it was open. I replaced the fuse with one of the spares and still didn't work, checked the fuse panel again and it was burn out again.

What would cause a fuse to constantly burn out like that?

Re: Insturment Panel will not illuminate

It can be caused by connections made with an audio head unit replacement.

Any recent electrical work done of any kind besides battery.

Re: Insturment Panel will not illuminate

Well I guess it could have been when I pulled out my stereo to look at the connections to see if there was somewhere form me to hook up an MP3 player.

How would I be able to test it to see if it would over load a fuse because I though I tested it right with a multimeter to make sure it was getting the right voltage and amp?

Re: Insturment Panel will not illuminate

Remove the dash pod again and look over the wiring. Make sure no plugs were left loose and that they are in the correct connectors. Check for wires against sharp metal edges that could cut into insulation.

As far as the illumination connections to the HU ?? I only have this info. My Metra adaptor harness Orange wire goes to my Pioneer Orange/White. My Metra harness Orange/White is isolated. Someone also mentioned an Orange/Black that also should be isolated.

As a test if all else fails take the HU illumination connections loose and isolate them.

Try not to blow too many more fuses until you can inspect the wiring and never install a larger fuse.

Re: Insturment Panel will not illuminate

HU = Head Unit

Did you use a harness adaptor to plug into factory audio wiring ?? or wire direct to factory wires ??

Any connections made to factory Red or Red/Black wires ??

The dimmer circuits original connections probably were correct or there would have been a problem earlier.

If you pulled the dash unit out I would look for problems with the wiring getting exposed or cut on sharp metal edges.Be sure to check the factory connectors to switches and controls. They contain wiring for the illumination circuits as well.
