Just got my first Civic - clutch question!
Just got my first Civic - clutch question!
Just got my 01 EX coupe. I traded in my 95 Saab 900S. So far I really like the Civic.. It's not as powerful as the 900 (comparing stock to stock), but it gets better gas mileage and more importantly it's cheaper to maintain. In fact, I traded in the 900S because the timing chain was going and it's ~$2500 to replace. It wasn't worth it, considering I only paid $2000 for the car (3 years ago).
Now on to the questions:
1) The deal
$6495 for a 5spd 2001 EX coupe 78K miles. Good deal? Bluebook suggests this is reasonable. It was stickered for $8995 at a dealership, but they gave me $1000 for my effectively worthless trade-in (wouldn't have been able to sell privately). Then, after a bit of haggling I got them down another $1500.
2) Clutch.
At 78K, I have no idea if it's the first clutch or not. However, it seems to engage quite late in the throw of the pedal - is this common? In my Saab (which had a cable, not hydro), the engagement point of the pedal effectively tracks the age of the clutch - is this the same? I'm just wondering if I need to worry about a clutch replacement before I hit 100k.
3) Power locks
They don't work. I knew this going in and it was a bargaining chip. When you push the button down, you hear a click but nothing happens. Any common fix or ideas? I have a 2 year warranty (including electrical stuff) so I'm hoping I can get it fixed on that?
4) Keyless entry
I read on a cars.com entry that keyless entry comes standard on the 2001 EX, yet I didn't receive a fob with the car. Unfortunately, I discovered this -after- the purchase. Anyway, is there a way to get this replaced and would it be worth the cost?

Re: Just got my first Civic - clutch question!
far as the key fob, buy one on ebay, its like 15 bucks, second, on the power door locks, its the door lock actuator, 25 bucks from honda and about 2 hours of ur time, clutch may just need some adjustment, https://www.civicforums.com/forums/s...32#post3390132, check that out, and yes u got a pretty good deal for a vtec car, ull have fun with it if u want to do upgrades, just save up for a turbo for ur best performance option...
Re: Just got my first Civic - clutch question!
Thanks for the reply! I'm surprised -both- actuators went out at the same time... well who knows, maybe the previous owner didn't care to fix it. Anyway, it's under warranty now, so I'll take it to the dealer and have them do it.
I'll check out the key fob thing and the clutch position - maybe it's normal.. I don't know at this point.
I'm in an apartment ATM and don't have access to a garage, so no big DIY jobs for me..
