yeah, but i'm pretty sure now that I think of it that the black connector wasn't attached. I always took off my battery when I was doing work to my amp and subs, but I just forgot this time i guess
You need to get ECU reset its that simple, and rewire those wires u sliced...car is not slower, or faster its jus ur ECU/RPM's etc everything runnin ur motor has been off tuned so jus reset it and ull be cool...next time jus leave it alone
crap blah i just went to my car and i totally dint see any black connector. are you talking bout the gray connector to the ECU? im all lost. um i did however see a yellow connector on the left side if you look towards where your head unit would be. That would be the SRS connector. not sure if you messed that one up. And again im not sure either if you disconnect the ECU plugs, if it'd f-up the SRS.
Reset the ecu and it fixed the check engine/srs side light. as for the decreased performance, I dunno. Maybe it has something to do with my airfilter(?). but whatever.
Does anyone know exactly how much voltage runs across that VTEC wire?
Would it be a 12V feed or something else?
The reason I'm wondering is that, for one, some of you people that have put on resistors without too much resistance, you may be putting too much voltage into the LED and it'll cause it to burn out really soon.

Get a multimeter and check it. That's the easiest thing to do when the car is right there and you want to know something.

lease:Yea, I've got a multimeter, but I wanted an idea before I start ripping into it..
So far I popped one of the little panels next to the Cigarrete lighter out, and poped a small LED I had thru it, it fit's really snug so I don't even need to attach it.. I've got a lot of wire, but I've decided on using a piece of black phone cord to connect it over to the tap.. I know the phone line has 4 wires and I'm only using 1, but whatever =P hehe, I choose it because it's nicely insulated...
All I really need do is need to get into the car and connect it.. the only thing I'm waiting on is to go to Radio Shack and buy a splice tap, it seems a lot less messy way of connecting it up.
That and I need to find a resistor to use..

680 Ohms works well. Its bright enough to be visible in daylight, and dim enough not to light up the car at night. Radio Shack sells LEDS with 2 different brightnesses, get the lower numbered one (I forget how they're rated)
Ok, I've installed my VTEC light
I already had an LED in a holder (It came out of some really old PC I ripped apart in my computer maintanance class a while ago).. so I used that, and a black spring-loaded switch out of a project I did a while ago.. Then I drilled some holes in those little black squares next to the Cigarrete lighter, made one that fits the LED really snug, so It doesn't need anything to hold it in...
I had a few problems getting it working.. partly because I wasn't too sure which wire coming out of the LED was positive (It had a black and red, and granted RED is always +, but for some odd reason, I don't think that was the case).. Anyway.. I did it last night, and with mosquitos flying around and that damn texas humidity, I kinda rushed it a little, so a lot of stuff is being held together with duct tape... haha
So, not too professional, but it looks fine from the outside... I went to Radioshack and bought a pack of 470ohm resistors.. It's still a bit too dim in the daylight, probably because it's a cheap old LED.
Oh well, It'll be fun to see my car light up at night, as I barely tap the throttle.. haha, and I always have the switch I put in, if it gets annoying.
Now, it'll just be funny when my parents drive the car and wonder what the hell the little light is =P

ok...whats the point of having a light that tells you when you are in VTEC?
Maybe that was answered in a previous post, i didnt take the time to go through all 9 pages.

but dont you think its kind of sad that we need a little light to tell us when we are in our "powerband"? Im kind of embarrassed about my cars power, but then to hook up a light letting everyone in the car know when i am in VTEC so they can ask me "is this you powerband!?!"...i dont know.
Im sorry, i dont mean to flame anyone, its just not my cup of tea. You guys are way smarter than i am to be cuttin wires and stuff to get this thing to work, so props on that.

I agree the VTEC light doesn't really serve a purpose. It's not going to make you faster or help you drive any better..
But we're all crazy people that like to wire stuff up when we got the chance so we do. It also makes a good conversation starter when someone gets in my car and asks what that light that keeps going on is.

Tell me what you don't like about yourself....

Hey! Look At Me!! I'm a Supporting Member!! I did the vtec light because I was bored and wanted to work on my car.
The only reason I use mine is the same, for a conversational peice, and people that your racing at night wonder what the hell it is. I have it wired into a switch with my trunk neons so I can turn it off on the highway cause I go to school an hour away from home and travel home once every week or so....
I made a new post. Topic: DIY VTEC Light 2?...
Made a second DIY, sorry for the double post. Please no bashing!
Please see new thread for what I have posted. Sorry for all the deleted text.
i kno this is supposed to be about the vtec light , but now im kinda hooked on led's , im thinkin bout usin them to light little things in my car , like that little space under the cig lighter. anyone know how to wire it? i already have some neons under the seats , so theres already a switch . i wanna wire the led's to that . is the wiring different frum the vtec light wiring? thanx for reading ! hopefully u have an answer for me
