Questions about getting my block bored

Since there are no high performance pistons available for our car's, I've noticed that a few people have had their engines de-stroked to 1.6L so that they can use commonly available b/d16 pistons. So I'm thinking about going the other route and having mine bored to 1.8L so that I can use aftermarket b18 pistons.

Im going to have my stock connecting rods shot peened since there are no replacements at this time. My proplem is that I dont know if the b18 pistons will attach to my stock rods.

Also, whats a good compression to run on a N/A engine that will see a 50-75 shot every now and then? I was thinking 10.5 to1 , or maybe even 11 to 1.

I think that black99vtec was the first person to de-stroke their block, Ill PM him and see if he'll take a look at this thread.

I have no clue what this whole process is but it sounds intriguing.

Sounds like it would work but a bit unsure S2000man will likely have all the info on this cuz he seemed to know everything about it when blackvtec99 was going through it.

It means I want to raise the displacement of my engine by boring out (making the holes that the pistons go in larger) and using larger 1.8L pistons.

B18 Pistons are 81 mm. Ours are 75. I guess it's doable, but our engines have a longer stroke (87.2 vs. 94.4) So you would be pushing the displacement considerably higher than a B18. youd be looking at about 1.95L unless you changed the rods too.
It would be a ton of work to do it and do it right, and I'm not sure how much space there is between the cylinder bores... you want to make sure there is still suffecient material left after you're done.

talk to a few shops, and keep tabs of quotes, and if you do decide to go for it, make a parts list with prices

Hmm...so that means I'd nearly have a 2.0L!!! One question though, would the b18 pistons stick out of the block at TDC?

I don't know. I don't know the exact geometry of the engine internals. It would depend on the rod length and the hight of the piston head.

Last I heard (haven't seen)...our pistons are oval shaped. If true, that'll make boring it out a bit harder.

I would be really worried about your pistons hitting your valves, it all depends on the squash pattern on the piston.

make sure you deck it and double check on your measurements.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Would there still be some way of making the pistons fit? With enough boring? And what about destroking to a 1.6? There are just too many questions...

Ok, so how about having a the blocke round bored to accept a set of sleeves designed for a B18? Since thats going to be an even larger bore it should remove the entire oval shape, and the sleeves should re-enforce it enough that the block would still be strong.

Darton makes a set for the B18 that are supposed to have a built in block guard, but they cost $599+.

I'm calling BS on OVAL PISTONS.
I just ran the numbers

Displacement=
[(Bore/2)^2*pi]*Stroke *Cylinders
1000

In other words
[(75/2)^2*3.14.......] * 94.4 *4
1000

that equals 1668.18 cc
The EXACT displacement of our engines according to Honda. The pistons are round.
They may have domed or dished tops, but they have circular cross sections.

Hmmm, It looks like both the B16 and B18 both have a bore of 81 MM. The B18 however has a longer stroke, so would that mean the the B18 pistons are still the best candidate? Or should I start looking at B16 pistons?
