Best oil????

OK before the flamming starts, I did a search and nothing stated what was the best. I just want to know what the best kind of oil is to put into our N/A egines. I've read up on synthetic and all that stuff but I'm still unsure. Little help?

Just about any brand name oil is more fine for use in our Civics and synthetic oil is very good too, look for the SAE stamp. But just as we all have opinions this topic is probably the most debated. Just make sure you change your oil and filter no more than 5000 miles between each change. I have used Valvoline for 20 years with no problems, and I use 5w-20 in my Civic and straight 40w in my Van which now has close to 300,000 miles.

I have heard some bad things about 5w 20 though. Isn't that what is recommended for our cars?

our engines were designed to use 5w20, the dumb honda dealer i have here put some 10w30 in my car before and it made it all sluggish (my first oil change) so i threatened them to give me a new car they didn't but they installed my oem body kit for free

if you're in a hotter climate you may want to use 5w30, which is what i use, but 5w20 is fine also. i personally see no need for synthetic oil on a civic, unless i had forced induction or a significant amount of performance mods.

sorry but i dont think a hotter climate would affect the 5w-20/5w-30. No matter how hot it is your engine still runs at the same operating temp. which is the 2nd #. The only thing that would differ in climates is the first #. which is the viscosity at the lower end of the spectrum....correct?

There really isn't a Best oil, in a sense that people have different opinions and no one can really agree on one type. I would definately recommend synthetic though if you are using petrolium based, and if you are thinking of switching to synthetic, then make sure you do it early enough, not when you have racked up alot of miles already. I use mobil 1 5w30 and my engine runs pretty smooth. I usually change my oil every 5,000 miles. Some people prefer amsoil 5w20, just experiment with synthetics I guess, see what you like the best. If it is a brand name synthetic then it shouldn't really notice a big difference.

ive been wonderin is it ok if we switch from 10w30 to 5w20? Because ive switched back and forth and was wondering if it will do anything wrong if i switch back and forth between viscosity?

It won't hurt a thing, but you will get decreased fuel milage with 10w-30 compared to 5w-20. The main thing is that you're changing your oil and thats very good.

It wont hurt, but your engine will have to work harder since its thicker and it might be harder to start depending on your climate. Also it wont flow as well as 5w-20 obviously..
