i'd still go with 5w-30, full synthetic is thinner than conventional oil as it is, and is not as effected by extreme temp diffs.

mixing oil

i know you shouldn't mix brands of oil...

but would it be okay to mix a 50/50 mixture of 5w-20 and 5w-30
of the same brand?

[edit - fixed typo] i want to mix 5w-20 supersyn and 5w-30 supersyn

What would be the advantages of going with the 5W-20 vs the 30? I use the Mobil 1 30 right now and I love it

no, i meant 5w-20 synthetic and 5w-30 synthetic.

i was getting 39 mpg with the stock 5w-20 organic oil,
but when i switched to mobil 1 5w-30, my mpg dropped
to 34 mpg.

i figure it's because of the higher viscosity,
but i don't want to use something as thin as 5w-20
especially with the hot summer months just ahead,
so i figured 5w-25 would be a good balance

Same thing I'm wondering???? I got a great deal on a case of Amsoil, the thing is, the guy who is selling it only has 5w-30. Untill today I've been using Castrol GTX 5w-20. I used 5w-20 cuz it says so on the oil cap. Can I safely swith to Amsoil 5w30???? Amsoil is fully synthetic, I heard when u swith between regular oil and synthetic u need and engine flush. Can U guys help me out.

The difference between 5w-20 and 5w-30 is the 30 wont thin out as much at higher temps. The down side of using thicker oil is the engine now has to work a little harder(like your oil pump) and you may lose a some gas mileage. So its a trade off.

About Amsoil, I've never heard of having to flush your old oil out unless your just firing up a freshly rebuilt engine. Some guys like to flush out the metal shavings and particles after a few rpm pulls. But Amsoil is fully compatible with dino oil, so you shouldnt need to flush. Just drain the dino and refill with Amsoil.

If your looking for more info on oil, check out this

site's forum.

Alot of good info there..

looks like they only offer Mobil1 0w-20, and not 5w-20.

supposedly 0w-20 gives you easier cold starting than
5w-20, but is there any DISADVANTAGE from using
0w-20 versus 5w-20?
