take it off.... hopefully you didn't throw out that bag of rubber caps they gave you. Find the 3rd smallest one and cut the top off. Slide it down the shift lever past the threads and the change in diameter. then put the 2nd smallest cap on top of the threads. Push the **** down and make sure the lower cap (the one you cut the top off of) is visible through the holes for the set screws. Then lock the set screws in.
