Uh, substantial? I don't think so. Since an I/H/E only nets about 5-6hp on our cars (damn cat converters) you probably won't notice a difference.

If you have an ex, probably not. The ex has a very free-flowing exhaust to begin with. Although, the piping really isn't where the hp (all 1-2 ponies) is being gained. You're getting the little extra hp from the aftermarket muffler imo. You don't really need any bigger piping than stock for a 127hp na engine imo.
so would it be better to just weld on a aftermarket muffler since we dont gain much? or do a straight pipe( take out cat) then the after market exhaust would we gain somthing then? I dont mind spending the money if it will be worth it, but if not im gunna do a weld on just for the look.
You would have to have it custom done because you'd need a new flange to fit the larger pipe of the greddy onto the small muffler pipe. It would have to be smooth at the joint or else you'll get ALOT of backpressure at the fitting....
if you compare the piping diameter and the muffler, you can extract more power if you change the muffler. a straight through design is the way to go if you want to gain a couple horse power. but when sound volume comes into play... in my opinnion, your plan is great.

im trying to achieve a sleeper status from the cops. Intake which is carb legal. HP headers with heat shield. Greddy Mid Pipe w/ OEM Muffler. maybe some washers between the flanges for the muffler & midpipe connection
If you want to go sleeper, the bigger piping won't do much. The only people that get a large gain from bigger piping are those running forced induction or Nitrous. If you aren't going to do that, there is not need for the bigger piping. but with a costom pipe job you could pick a tip that doesn't standout and still have and exhaust. check out the muffler shop they will have a big book of tips to pick from.
a mid section exhaust and the oem muffler is a great combo for a stock look. but your sleeper idea is contradicted by putting washers between the muffler and resonator... it's going to be kinda loud. here's a thought for ya... if you still want to use the greddy mid section and retain the sleeper look, use a ES OVAL muffler. it's a straight through design and is very quiet, and another plus is that it looks stock. all the EG boys use it. IT'S BEAUTIFUL!!

well.. obx has a 2.25 mandrel bent mid pipe for about $120. i was thinking about using the OBX over getting a custom bent pipe. most muffler shops use crush bent machines. even though OBX is crap.. but when it comes down to it.. it's quality is still probably better then a ordinary muffler shop.
