theyll do it, i dunno about the wiring, id bet they wont do the wiring, but they physical install will teke them 2 minutes and 30 seconds to do. a stereo shop will do teh wiring for you tho, for sure. even install a switch and everything for you, if you want. theyll even supply teh switch and wiring, hide it, everything. the stereo shop will even install the latch, too, since thatll take them an extra 3 minites.

Thanks ohmysac for this DYI !

As far as having honda do it, I have called honda and they said that they would do this all for $ 120 :rolleyes, but I'm gonna give it a shot on my girlfriends civic. I also wanted to add to this thread that I asked ohmysac and he confirmed that the drivers foot trunk opener still should work fine if the new popper is installed correctly.

alrites. Today, i went to my local Honda dealership and purchased a 1998 HOnda Accord EX Trunk Latch for $30.00. After purchasing the latch, ive then check the DIY on this board and realized that the 1998 Honda Accord EX Trunk latch was a little differant from the 2001 Accord EX. I had to hard wire everything to the latch. The latch from the 1998 Accord EX came with a wiring harness. Our civics did not come with the proper wiring harness for Plug and Play trunk pop. If any1 has encountered this problem, you will need to hard wire the following wires:

Green Wire from the Latch to the Black Wire on our car
Blue Wire from the Latch to the Red Wire on our car

Blue Solid w/ Green Stripe from the Latch to the Positive 12V trunk pop signal from our alarm
Black Wire from the Latch to our Chasis for ground.

There should be one wire remaining, but i do not remember the color. So just tape that up. Everything should work properly after these connections.

I just did the trunk popper DIY and I love it. I bought the 98-00 accord popper and then installed it in like 10 minutes. I didn't do the wiring cause I was having my Python 1500 ESP alarm installed and the guy said he could hook it up for free. Well now when I got a bunch of beer on ice in the trunk and someone wants one, I just hit the button instead of getting my lazy *** up or giving them my keys. I don't know why Honda didn't just have this as a factory option because it is honestly one of my favorite mods on my car, which is kinda sad I guess. Well, thanks Ohmysac for all the help.

what I meant was, from handa accessories, you can choose 4dr or 2dr. Is there a difference in the popper?

Hey, I have the same keyless entry unit. I was just wondering..how you did the wire hook up. The relay that comes with the kit has 4 terminals. How do you know which terminal is what? Also, the trunk release has one blue wire terminal. is that the wire that I have to connecte to the positive terminal on the relay?

Thanks.

pm me back or email me at ken@kenlau.net. I'm gonna write up a DIY once I get it installed.

I just did this tonight... There was only 1 real hassle.

Pulling out the factory unit is easy, except the lavender latch around the key rod, that takes a little massaging with a screwdriver.

Installation was a peice of cake. There is even another hole in the back section of the trunk that you can connect the pull wire's harness to.

I still have to install my alarm, so I'm no further along than I was before, but that will be 1 wire from the relay.

BTW, the 2001 4dr LX unit is what you want.

Or you could just go to majestic honda and buy the automatic trunk release device from the 2001 series accord. Fits like a glove and has a factory look....

Anybody tried this the Accord remote with a Civic yet?
Looks like this would be easy, has the other button, and would allow 'trunk popper' from 01 Accord to be installed direct.
If not, I'm gonna buy one and try to reprogram. Anybody know of a DIY for remote programming?

Should work - you can just get Honda to proggy the remote. OR if you've got an alarm system, just install the popper then wire it into the alarm brain instead of going to Honda to program the remote.

getting an EL remote and programming it should be easy(assuming civics can use the el remote)

i just need to know how the acura 1.7EL pops the trunk because the civic is not prewired to have a remote trunk release feature. i dont think the civic has the relay either.

i dont have an aftermarket alarm to use as the brain. i bought the oem honda alarm because it was cheap. the oem alarm doesnt seem to have a trunk pop feature

i tried seaching alldata and mitchel1 for info but since those sites are american, they dont have any info on the EL(i know it's a civic but it's still a little different from a civic)

if you want to hook up the trunk release to the honda keyless entry unit, you still have to figure out how to install the wiring and relay because our cars are not prewired with it

I stuck the 12v line from the relay (both wires) into the brake light relay which is right above the brakes, this was a 1 minute solution to an otherwise difficult problem (for me since I dont know much about wiring).

i really dont like the bare wire hanging, the older trunk solenoid comes w/ a kit that have bike brake line insulating it and a brace that needed to be rivetted into a metal base which makes a clean installation. they might still sell it on ebay, ask the seller b4 buying.

btw, partexpress.com has teh same trunk solenoid kit like the pic above.
