Alarm LED

ok, did a little search, but couldnt find what i was looking for

i know that if i wanted to switch the red alarm led to a blue one, its not a simple cut the wire and twist the other into its spot. I believe a led has 3 wires coming from the bulb, im not sure what b/c i havent ordered some yet, but what colors are the wires and where do i hook them up. I am sure ones power and ones ground though, i think theres a 3rd.
I MAY BE WRONG SO LET ME KNOW

My main question is though, how do i wire a blue led to take the place of the factory one?

Thanks

i think it depends on the led.. if its just a regular simple led, i'm sure its just easy as cut and twist. if its the varad scanner, i think those have 3 wires

the Varad Hyper Blue led's have 3 wires. Red is the positive, black is the ground, and the yellow wire is what i think controls the flashing. I havent hooked it up to my alarm yet cause im not sure where to put the yellow wire. I have just put the red and yellow on the positive terminal on my battery, and then put the black wire on the negative terminal. That made the led turn on, but it didnt flash.

most of the leds ive seen have three wires because they are dual colors, they have one postive wire and 2 grounds, one for each color.

if you have a aftermartket alarm from which i am guessin ? then it is a direct hook up ... you can cut the varad circuit board off and use the 2 wires comin off the led ... you do not need the circuit board... it is for people who are hookin it up wiht out a alarm
