IS my engine really gone?
IS my engine really gone?
My engine won't start again. Distributor, ECU, fuel pump, relays and all sensors have been replaced two month ago. Battery is brand new. Can crank but just cant start. Been spending thousand on all replacment. I took very good care of my 92 civic esi. I cant feel my engine is dying.
Now the workshop told me that my engine is gone. I wonder if they are telling the truth. This morning, they removed my top engine.
See pictures:

Deep socket is used to crank it, but struck at position. Wont turn anymore even with force.

The first and fourth piston is out by 2-3mm in height. Second and third piston is levelled. IS THIS NORMAL?

I would like to know if my engine is really gone. Is that the reason why my car wont start at times. I would like to know if the shaft can crank freely if normal.
Any corncerns, PM me. I appreciate all helps

Re: IS my engine really gone?
Ummm, stupid question - did you check your spark plugs / coils / wires?
If you cant turn the crank at all anymore, and your pistons are off level, it sounds like you gotta problem down below. While you at it drop the oil pan and see what you can find out down there as to why its not cranking anymore.
If all else fails, just buy a new motor- thoes engines are pretty cheap these days.

Re: IS my engine really gone?
if you don't have the head on the motor it will turn pretty easily with a socket wrench on the crank if it won turn even with force you have problems.
From the looks of your pics of the block and deck you have a serious problem. Honda engines are built with pretty strict tolerances from the factory. With the amount of difference in height that pistons 1 and 4 are I would tell you, you have a serious problem in the bottom end.
You need to drop that oil pan and see the damage. My first guess off the bat with out dropping the oil pan would be that one of your bearings seized up and you threw or bent the rod. If the rod completely goes it tends to punch a whole in the side of the block, but if it just got bent a little bit it would come up at a different height more than likely lower than the rest and it would be driving the piston into the side of the block which would make it hard to turn.
so my final synopsis with out actually looking would be that you bent the #4 piston rod. the block might be salvage able but you are going to have to take it to a machine shop and have the re bore and hone the cylinders and probably do more work in the bottom end by the time it is all done it will be a lot cheaper to just replace the motor

i vote for spun rod bearing. which means it mustve gone low on oil or had really low oil pressure at some point.
