diy blackedout headlights
diy blackedout headlights
Hey can anyone tell me what temp the oven has to be set at when putting the headlights in the oven? Also do i keep them in there for 10 minutes or less?
And does anyone have pictures on how to remove the front bumper? i think its the 4 tabs inside the engine bay, 1 screw at the end of the bumper on the wheelwells and is that all or is there more?
thanks guys.

This is going to be locked soon.
I have to agree with the general census. If you have never used a jack then you are going to ruin your headlights.

Re: diy blackedout headlights
The jack points are:
1) Look under the front bumper basically midway between the right and left side. About 8 inches back, you should see a big arrow on a big 2 inch bar of metal. Jack it up there.
2) On the sides of your car about 4 inches behind the front wheels, and about 3 inches in from the door's edge is a thin strip of metal that's closer to the ground than any other part of the car. It looks like it's been banged on by a hammer for about 4 inches of its length. Jack it up along those 4 inches.
You really don't need to jack the car up to take off your front bumper. All you need to do is take of the two screws in the wheel wells with a philips screwdriver and all the plastic tabs underneath the hood and underneath the front bumper. There should be 4 underneath the hood and 4 underneath the front bumper. You may have to turn your wheel to gain access to the two philips screws in the wheel well.

Re: diy blackedout headlights
Eh we all didn't know where the jackpoints on our cars were at some point. Years ago when I looked I don't think our manuals were terribly descriptive about where on the underside of the car to jack the car up. He might have thought those two fat 2x4 looking metal bars were the jacking points.
Now that I look tho it is kinda clear. hehe.

Re: diy blackedout headlights
You don't have to jack it up or put the lamps in the oven. just use your muscle and pull the two pieces apart. pull up the DIY on "clearing corner lamps" and just add the painting part to it. I did this yesterday and besides the time allowed for pait to dry it took about and hour to an hour+1/2. good luck its a great mod for a low price.
Re: diy blackedout headlights
You dont need to jack up the car. Oven isn't necessary, but makes it much easier to take apart/put back together. Dont need to take off the black underspoiler just the screws that hold the bumper to it
