CAI Problems
Ok, im going to get a CAI, and i have heard that for some people the filter is right behind the Radiator, doesnt that defeat the purpose, as it draws in hot air.... anyway i would just like to find out if you guys had any problems with your CAI's and what i should watch out for. thanks
Ok dude, good question but before anyone else caps, do a search next time. I really think this is all a matter of opinion. The heat around where the AEM filter is is minimal. If you want a "true" CAI buy the injen race division. That one goes outside of the engine bay. Actually, I know a picture has been posted before with a picture of where the filter actually is. I have an injen on my civic, and I'm completely happy. But on a 91 turbo accord I'm building we're running an AEM, and it is a really nice intake.

I just bought the injen cai and will hopefully have it in a few days. I had trouble deciding which one I wanted. AEM is the most popular and has been around for a while. I noticed that the AEM cai's filter is just hanging there in the engine capartment, while the injen cai's filter actuall sits inside the area under the passsenger headlight. Thus, it's out of the engine compartment, and the filter should also be more protected from the elements. That's why I went with the injen. Plus, link off the ptuning.com from this site and get the 5% discount and free shipping. I got mine for 178.95 shipped.
I have the aem, and yeah it does sit behind the radiator, but it draws its air from the open area below the filter, as that tends to be the direction of airflow in the engine. I had an iceman on my sol and it sat inside the pass. fender. which was nice, but also had to take the bumper off to clean it or even inspect it. Peace
aem is mounted low in the engine bay. they claim to be best in class for intake.
injen or aem are your best bet. they are expensive but are the highest in quality. either one provides better performance than the stock air intake system, and this is one of the few mods that can extend the life of your powertrain if installed and used correctly.
others intakes are on the market. but bying quality assures reliability. several others here @ the forum have the same products so if you have problems with installation or maintanace someone has the answer for you

Someone said that you could just pull back the plastic from the wheel well, outside the car, and easily gain access to the filter. Makes sense to me. I had an jacobs ignition on one of my previous cars and mounted the coil in that exact spot. I just pulled the wheel well plastic back to access and to install it. There's no reason to remove the bumper.
I ordered one from Ptuning last week and got the tracking number today in my email, so
hopefully I will get it by next Tuesday....!! They said that it was on back-order....Hmmmm....
anywho....I am hoping to see some performance from the Injen CAI...I have a AEM SRI and I can tell that it's
there, so I hope the CAI will provide a better gain.....

IT does NOT suck air from under the car. Think about pressure gradients. Air thats ramming into the upper grille and lower grille areas need a place to go. And wheres that you ask? That's any place that has lower pressure. Yes thats right folks. The air doesn't go out of the seems on the edges of the hood cuz thats high pressure when you're moving. It travels down through the engine bay. Where your CAI is to be exact. The air that is being sucked around your CAI is HOT. Still don't believe me? So, you guys think that air can come up from under car and through the grilles and simply dissapper? Heck no..... body panels ain't porus. Buy a SRI. Same crap.
