Front bumpstops / dustcover

Well I recently upgraded my blown factory suspension to HP's and sportlines. The factory suspension was complete, no aftermarket parts but the front passenger's strut was leaking. When we did the install, the driver's side bumpstop / dustcover was torn to pieces. Since we were cutting them just over half way, more like 2/3 of the way cause it was so torn. We then used gorilla glue on the bumpstop and taped it to hold until the glue set. The passenger's side bumpstop was fine however, which is weird cause that was the side w/ the blown strut. Anyways, my suspension after a couple of months starts to feel like the factory blown suspension. I'm wondering if it's cause the factory bumpstop isn't doing anything? The dust cover seems to just sit on the bottom of the strut, doing nothing. Would this make the car feel more "bouncy". I don't know how to explain it, but when there's a series of small / medium sized bumps, it feels like / sounds like a marble inside a empty soda bottle being shaken up. I don't see any oil leaking out of the HP's, so I don't understand what's going on.
Some people cut the bumpstops completely off, right? It doesn't seem to be the same way on the passenger's side, seems like the bumpstop is doing it's job? Before I order new bumpstops for the front, I wanted to run this by you guys...thanks, D

^BTW, the glue didn't hold, so the bumpstop is non-existant for all practical purposes......

SHIAT, after searching, I think I know what the problem is.......the upper bumpstop was all torn on my factory struts, so we cut the top figuring we've gotta cut them anyways, when it seems like I should've cut the bottom of the bumpstops.......is this the same with the rear? Cut the top or bottom of the rears, or should I say install the top or bottom of the rears?
after you cut it? We installed the "bottom" half of the rears? is this wrong?

so I'm actually running w/ basically NO bumpstops in the front, what can I expect for problems, should I fix this ASAP or can I drive like this for awhile?

it's not ok not to use bumpstops. youre supposed to cut them from the bottom. I didn't cut mine at all.

Not using them at all won't hurt anything? they're sadly sitting on the base of the shock, doing absolutely nothing since the top is cut..............

ride quality is affected, correct? seems to be more bouncy...

Well if you have bottomed the car out with no bumpstops, you've basically slammed the top of the cylinder into the upper mount. Which is a metal on metal smash job and one hell of an impact. Its very possible you damaged the strut (blew out the seal) in the process since the whole point of the bump stop is to absorb the collision and slow the 2 parts down before they completely collide by giving it the bumper.

well, technically it is there, ripped and w/o the top part, so it somewhat slowed down the two parts, and it wasn't metal on metal........strut's not leaking or anything.....

Well it's basically cut from the top, not the bottom so it's useless........
I should just replace the two of them.....

I'm gonna order new front bumpstops and re-cut and re-install

It must be easy to just replace the bumpstop, or do I have to take the spring off, I can't remember doing them
