10w 30???
10w 30???
went to get an oil change today. i have 30k on an 01 lx. its not under warrenty anymore so the guy said to put in 10w30. is that good? and when i check the oil where is it supposed to be on the stick? 2nd dot?
10w-30 isn't offering you a benefit that you can't achieve with 5w-30 or for that matter a 5w-20.
The 20 weight oils are well built and you might want to use the new Mobil 1 5w-20 that will be coming out shortly. It's going to replace their 0w-20.
I'd dump the 10w because it's thickness is only making it harder to pump oil at start up. It does not offer additional protection at temperature. A 5w-something is preferred.
I use RL but I'd also use M1. If you're concerned with thickness you could run a couple of quarts of 5w-30 and the balance with 0/5w-20. Nice brew.

I have used 10w30 for 90,000 miles. Car runs better than new it seems. I also use synthetic. But it works just perfect. I change oil every 3,000 even w/synthetic as well.

if you live in a cold area, i would be a little more concerned. as said above, at operating temps there is no benefit. but for cold starting, a lower (5w) rating will help lubricate the engine quicker. also synthetic is thinner, so in cold you will have no problems with lubrication with a 5w20 or 5w30 syn. oil.
you can do the freezer test like my buddy did. put a cup of dino oil and a cup of synthetic oil in the freezer over night. then try to pour each the next morning. dino oil is real thick, thats what your car is trying to pump out when it gets well below freezing.

10w-30 would be ideal for vehicles with over 100k miles or of that matter.
but 30k isnt a lot, i would suggest using 5w-30, 0w-20, or 5w-20 (which honda recommends?). it also varies on your climate of location to decide which oil is better to use.
i run 5w-30 all the time and im in california.

I live in Florida so 10w works for me. I can understand if you live in Maine and its exremley cold, but for this motor only having four quarts and as high of rpm the motor has to turn all the time I feel that 10w is a good all around oil for a mild climate.
Just my 2cents though!
