Is this really a "test pipe"...or....

I just purchased this and installed it last night

http://www.meganracing.com/products/...asp?prodid=151

Megan Hi flow cat/down pipe/test pipe. What is the proper term for this? Megan calls it a hi flow cat, and a test pipe, and a down pipe...lol. Just wondering what it really is.

Was it a mistake to put it on. It makes my car loud as hell, my CEL came on which I'll take care of tonight. But everyone says it would make me lose power because I'd lose backpressure. Will this pipe really make me lose backpressure? I think when I was asking about test pipes before everyone thought I meant just a straight pipe....

It is both a high flow cat (I guess) and a test pipe.

It replaces the cat and makes it like a resonator providing more exhaust flow and less back pressure. You will probibly lose some power in the lower rpm's but gain more in the higher rpms.

Also the cell came on due to it not being a cat and filtering the bad exhaust fumes. So, slap the old one back on before a smog test.

Why did you link to a thread on weight reduction? But yeah, it's really more of a test pipe.

Backpressure in an exhaust is not desirable, period. Just FYI.

On a naturally aspirated engine you do want SOME backpressure. It creates a vaccum effect that pulls the exhaust gasses out of the engine.
On a turbo car, 0 backpressure would be the ideal condition.

If you removed the O2 sensor, then you'll get a CEL light. You'll most likey have to either go back to stock, drill a hole for the sensor or buy a O2 simulator. They call it a test pipe since its not smog legal or ARB certified.
