break in question
break in question
Does anyone have any recommendations for breaking in a new car? I bought a new civic (4dr, lx, automatic) last weekend and I was wondering what people think about breaking it in. I aksed a couple friends and everyone seems to say take it easy for the first 1000-1500 miles and then change the oil, but the manual only says not to accelerate too hard for the first 600 miles and follow the regular schedule for changing oil, which I assume is just every 5k miles. What do you guys think is a good amount of time to break it in for and does the oil need to be changed after that or should it wait until 5k miles?

Please search. change your oil between 2500-3000 the first time then you can go 5000 every time. Everyone will suggest different things about breaking in your engine. Some people say break it in with hard revs or on a dyno. Other say follow the manual. Do what you think is best. I personally did not pass 4k during my break in of 600 miles and I haven't had a problem yet.
