need help with squealing belt

Ok I have a belt squeal that is god awful. It mostly comes from when I turn on the AC. So I check the belt on the alternator and it is making good contact with the pulley so then I look at the AC pulley. The AC pulley isn't spinning at all and the belt is just going around it, but right now it isn't squealing. I turn the AC on and the AC pulley starts spinning and then the squeal starts again. My question is, does the AC pulley turn when the AC is off because I would think it does, and if it does, is my belt just not making good contact with the AC pulley or could the compressor be seized up until I turn it on. Someone please help.

1 of two things, either the belt isn's making good contact like u said, or it needs to be tensioned. I know when I lost my PS tension it squeeled like a ****ing pig raper.

replace the belt or adjust the tension or you can something temporary like putting some belt dressing....you can try also armor all on the belt and pulleys

waht you are seeing is the clutch in the ac pulley working. the pulley does not turn the ac unless you turn it on inside the car. try tightening the belt. if that doesn't work then clean the pullies and replace the belts.

Does the AC turn on / blow cold air? I had a problem where my compressor actually locked up (older american car though) and caused the belt to squeel... untill it finally broke

yeah AC works it just starts to squeal because it looks like the pully is spinning and the belt just must not be making good contact with it. I will try to pull everything off and then tighten it up really good. Oh by the way where is the tensioner for that belt around the AC pulley?
