tach for 2004 DX
Getting a DX monday...it does not have a tach. Does anyone have info, having installed, a tach on the car that blends with the panel...not overly large and looks good. Can an EX instrument panel be put into this DX with the tach? Thanks
YES, you should be able to swap the instrument panel with an LX or EX unit. I did it with my 2001 Civic. A tip, get the LX panel 'cause the EX panel has ABS light, which will stay on due to the lack of ABS system. BTW, my 2001 DX came with A/C, Alarm and Cd Player. I matched the color of the mirrors and handles and switched to EX gauge cluster for less than $250. The LX was $3000 more than the price I paid for my DX.
yea wtf??....i thought the 2003 and 2004 dx or vp had a tach...like the ones that came with the 01' and 02' ex models....where the fuel and temp are on far left and right and the tach is on mid-left and speedo is on mid-right....and the 2003 or 2004 had their own new style guages.

If you decided to go with Aftermarket Tach. Check out DIY.
Very simple DIY.

Thanks to Bellz.
For 01-02 Civics. It was possible to just do gauge cluster swap without any hassle.
It was just simple plug in and play.
However, I am not sure about 03-04 Civics. Lx.Ex models come with new style gauge cluster.
I know that harness is different from 01-02 civics.
Pecx installed 03 gauge cluster on his 01 Civic.
So, With some rewiring , its definetly possible to do gauge cluster swap with ex models.
If 03-04 DX gauge cluster harness is identical as lx/ex models.
That should be simple plug in swap. Size of gauge cluster is identical.

I think that is so lame not to have a tach on a manual car, given the car was not intended to be raced, some leeway should be considered for those who drive in the snow a lot and lose traction. My tach helps me so much in the snow.
its the dash of another members car, (really cant remember the name, sorry) but I would have to assume that its a little involved. but get the right core bit and take your time with the intial hole ... you should do fine
Eghad, the stock cluster without a tach looks simply HIDEOUS! Why on earth do they put the fuel and temp guages in place of the tach guage instead of where the belong in the little circles on the sides? I mean, they could put a tasteful analogue clock or something in place of the tach or nothing at all. I guess they want to make it UGLY enough for you to want the next model up.
But I bought a fully loaded SI so I dont have the problem

You have two of them....
When the motor starts to whine, you shift.
