yes, chaning wheel size will affect the accuracy of your speedo and odometer

gauges works in a couple ways, a spinning reluctor, where a sensor counts how many times has the reluctor spin within a certain amount of time

spinning rotor, where the spinning rotor creates a voltage and the voltage becomes a signal for the ecm to determine the velocity, or rpm

marked rotor, simular to a reluctor, except this one has an eye that looks for one groove on the rotor itself.

there are some other ones, older cars also uses a different system, i don't know them yet

the odometer is effected, because it calculated accordingto your speedo, rpm isn't affected though

if you get bigger rims, just get the right profile tires so that the overall diameter of the wheel is the same, and therefore you'll still get the same mileage as stock.
