VTEC engagement

This issue STILL hasnt been clarified. Has anyone called Honda? My VTEC light was installed properly, and Seems that VTEC engages at 2,xxx RPMS.. somewhere around 2 to 3k.. that doesnt sound right cause I know VAFC LOWERS your vtec engagement... which would assume that its high in the first place to begin with... Anyone know? Why does my light come on early? And yes its wire 100% correctly.

We don't actually know... The light gives you when the signal comes out of the computer, but that may or may not be when the high cam actually engages. There's 2 parts, theres VTC and then VTEC. They work as part of the same system to squeeze a little more kick out of the car. VTC (Variable Timing Control) advances the timing and then VTEC (Variable Timing and lift Electronic Control) is the part that kicks the extra set of cam lobes in. So what the light could be reading is the signal to advance the timing, then the cam lobes engage later when the solenoid locks them in. You may be getting the 1st part of a 2 stage process to engage VTEC. Sport Compact Car however reports that the Si (K20A3) does in fact engage VTEC at 2300... which explains why Apexi says not to install a VAFC on the car, and a VAFC 2 is coming... probably also explains the problems with our cars, and why they say the VAFC2 will work better on ours too... I know there are fixes for V1, but lets wait and see if it gets sorted out. Honda re-did VTEC for i-VTEC. It isn't exactly the same as what it was and its gonna take a little time to get all the little differences hammered out.

I just wanna know when the Cam profile shifts over :-) Thanks for the info boilmaker, I was kinda thinking the same thing.. maybe the light coming on is just a signal from the computer to prepare the oil sending unit to the VTEC line... who knows?
