Door not locking correctly

Hi guys,

I did search and didn't find anything concerning this problem so I'm sorry if it's been posted. I just got a 04 civic coupe, which is the most basic model, with no keyless entry, and when I lock my door using the power lock inside the car, then I get out and close the door, if I try to open it again, it opens about 1 inch then gets stopped by the lock. This is pretty annoying since I bet it would make it a lot easier to steal. Also I have a hard time taking out my key from the lock when I unlock it. While shopping for my car, I've also seen another civic (03,04 or 05 cant remember), with the exact same problem, so I guess it's common.

Is there an easy way to fix this or should I just get the lock replaced (or do it myself).

Re: Door not locking correctly

i had a similar problem when i took my door panel off i just sprayed some white lithium grease into the lock and moved the key back and fourth and repeated also on the part that contacts the door sill. also you can adjust either the metal hook on the door sill or the other part that contacts it i cant remember.

Re: Door not locking correctly

Are you aware that a Honda drivers door will not lock when it is open ??

The door has to be closed to lock properly.

You might try some lock graphite powder to see if it helps with the lock cylinders operation.

Oh really? Well that's weird why the hell would there be a power lock then.. but it does lock correctly when I lock it with the key, but I have to wiggle it to get it out, I'll try to put some grease in there to see if it helps

Re: Door not locking correctly

It has been that way on the Honda models for quite a few years now. To prevent locking yourself out.

Re: Door not locking correctly

well it's a good idea, except it does lock, just not completely, if I locked my keys in, I would still not be able to open the door...

Re: Door not locking correctly

You can hold up the outside handle or pull the inside handle out before locking when open and it will lock.

Each time I did this on my 05 it got all weird (lock **** stuck down and other scary things) so I quit doing it.

I've had to do this every time I get out of my car for the past 9 months on my 02..... (damn Dollar Store quality door lock actuators) and nothing scary or weird has happened...
