removing engine splash shield
you guys know that big plastic shield that kinda goes under the engine? i know its for water protection and stuff, but i dont see why its that important cause doesnt water usually splash up from the wheels back towards the rear of the car? i want to take the plastic off cause even tho its installed and held up properly, it still looks terrible from the front like its falling off. would be much cleaner without it. any thoughts?

Its also to help with aerodynamics and turbulence underneath your car. If your take it off and cruise the highway, you'll probably feel a difference. Also it helps keep street debris from shooting up into your engine bay and potentially damaging something.

Re: removing engine splash shield
really, i would think it would be worse for aerodynamics with them on, they are hanging down below the bumper and blocking air from flowing thru under the car. idk, to me it doesnt seem necessary. maybe i will try and remove it for now and see if water and stuff really makes it up there. i dont see what there is to protect anyway, theres nothing important except the frame and part of the radiator which is trashed already from rock chips.

Re: removing engine splash shield
Mine was falling apart one time and was dragging on the freeway. I tried holding it up with some rope, but eventually, it didn't hold on long enough. I ended up ripping it off.
Re: removing engine splash shield
I lost mine on my 92 honda accord EX... Turns out over time water was shooting up and getting important parts underneath the hood wet. It destroyed my distributor. Which rusted out pretty fast and had to be replaced. I also think the distributor destroyed the engine as it blew shortly after that... It was an H22A too in that car
I miss it... and although I'm not 100% sure it was the splash shields fault, that's what I blame it on... I'd be careful taking it off, Honda put it there for a reason.

Re: removing engine splash shield
well thanks for all the comments. i took it off, then realized that the shield also has two parts that go up on each side where the wheel is to cover the engine bay. it was looking weird from the side angle with a big hole there, and the driver side had all the timing belt and ac compressor stuff showing. so triz was right, that wasnt gonna work. but i ended up cutting out both end pieces and using them with the two clips. they hold in place perfectly and cover the important stuff. the middle piece i threw away, since there was nothing important under the bumper. in fact all the frame supports were already very muddy. that will be tomorrow's project to clean all the frame parts lol and possibly paint some rusty areas. but overall it looks great without those dumb flaps hanging down. and i saved another 0.75 lbs!!

Re: removing engine splash shield
well to be honest, the back of the splash shield was dirtier than the front! lol. so i really dont think they did much. but thats fine, its just one extra area to clean. took me a minute to wipe the black frame rails clean. my whole car needs to be washed underneath, everythings filthy lol. maybe when i have the car up for my oil change i will wipe everything and maybe do some painting.
