question about headlights

just bought a used 2003 civic EX. the owner had "pressure washed it" and there is major moisture in the headlights. Have had the car for 5 months, and they have not dried out...any suggestions besides replacing the headlights? the headlights work great, I just don't like the look...someone suggested taking out the bulb and using a hairdryer....

Re: question about headlights

drill miniature holes in teh bottom of the headlights, it will alleviate this problem, without replacing, allows the moisture to escape

Re: question about headlights

hmm weird, pressure wash should not get water in the lights as they are sealed around the edges with sealant. do you know how to take the headlights off the car? then you could seal them again from the outside with silicone. i know the stock goo stuff breaks down over time so maybe they just have holes where water can get in. for now, take out the rubber boot in the back where the bulb is and leave it open til the moisture goes away, prolly one day is enough. or faster would be a hairdryer inside but leaving open should work.

^drilling holes would work too to keep moisture from coming back again

I am not sure how to get the bulb out , but I am sure I can find out and let the headlight dry out. Thanks!

Re: question about headlights

just reach in back of the headlight, and you will feel the rubber cover and the plug. the plug will pull out, and then the rubber cover will too. you can leave the bulb clamped inside. just removing the boot will leave enough open air to let the water evaporate.

Re: question about headlights

heres the rear of the headlamp. the arrows are pointing to the adjuster, and to the right of that is the rubber boot. the bulb would be inside there too but its not in this pic. just pull on those tabs sticking out.

Re: question about headlights

I think I've got it but need to wait until daylight to see better. just afraid the boot won't fit on tight, also the battery and washer fluid holder are in the way.
