sounds on 2000rpm/2500rpm

tried searching no result. don't know what other words to put at the search . . .

heres the problem. . . . i've been carefully listening to my car and i've noticed, that when the needle on the rpm gauge hits 2000rpm sometimes 2500rpm, there is a slight swishing sound. it's kind of hard to describe, something like air passing through???? (not loud, can only hear it if you pay attention) this sound only happens when the needle is on the 2000rpm and if not, on the 2500 rpm. anyone know of this???

btw, it's an 01 coupe ex

thanks in advance

never heard of this. the only guess i could take is that it might be the air going into the engine. probably not right, but tis the only thing i can think of

This is very strange like the previous post said. Do you have a header by any chance. Bc that sound you describe sounds like air pinging inside the header when u step on the gas. I don't know please describe more if you can.

i know the sound. I posted up when I had my car with only 1,000 miles on the odo (it's an 05 ex coupe - now with 27,000 on it). I don't think it's anything, because I've heard other EM2's with the same sound when accelerating.

mods . . . aem sri, hpracing exhaust. (nothing great)

yes it happens when i accelerate. i can also hear it when i'm in neutral and i slowly rev it. again i only hear it ON the 2000 rpm and sometimes the 2500rpm. below and over sounds fine

the swishing sound does sound like air, and a very very very low zzzzzzzzz-ing sound???

First thought was it was the Vtec transition from low to high cam. But isn't 2000rpm too low? I thought 2800rpm was minimum. Most tachs aren't acurate but it won't be 800rpm off.

Some people claim to hear a similar noise at about 4500rpm. I think the consensus is that it is a sweet spot where the air flow is just right. Maybe 2000rpm is the sweet spot for the low cam.

i have an LX and i do have this hissing/metallic whining/supercharging sound at around 2000 and 2500 rpm, but my throttle has to be at a particular opening to have that sound to occur. I like that sound though

that sound you're hearing is air bubbles passing throught your heatercore. its very common for our cars and its not big deal, more of an annoyance than anything.

Re: sounds on 2000rpm/2500rpm

just got my car back from the mechanic for maintenance and for the check engine light to be fixed. apparently it was an o2 sensor that set me check engine light on.

anyways, found out that the rattling noise that i was hearing at 2500rpm, it was the catalyc(sp?) convertor shield that was loose. apparently after so much scraping it ripped off one of the bolts. had to be replaced, don't want my car to get on fire. just an fyi.

dude, that rattling noise that I hear d was the catalytic (sp?) convertor shield. hopefully that helps you and that you don't go crazy trying to figur it out if our issue is the same. my car is lowered to the point that I practically scrape a lot. I assume I scrapped too much that it loosened thae shield. too replace it it's about a benjamin. if this is not the case for hope you find it.

Re: sounds on 2000rpm/2500rpm

Wow I have a similar problem.. My car (02 lx) is lowered too a little, so it could be the catalytic converter.. I'll have to take a look.. The noise that mine makes is really loud though.. and rather BAD. doesnt sound good. people always look at my car like wtf when it makes that noise, its almost like something metallic is ripping. its on and off between 2k and 3k rpms and the accelerator has to be at least half way in or so. initially i thought it was my exhaust manifold cuz i know it was leaking some air.. so i took it off, replaced the gasket, sealed it with some gluey stuff but the noise hasnt changed a bit.. anyway ill try the converter this weekend.

Re: sounds on 2000rpm/2500rpm

I have the same sound, only started after I upgraded my exhaust.

EDIT- forgot to say that it happens usually when i'm entering traffic and my engine hasnt warmed up yet- usually in the first mile or so, but only when accelerating. Sounds like some nitrous turbo kind of sound to me

Re: sounds on 2000rpm/2500rpm

What was the part number for the heat shield? I lower my car at one point in time. It makes metal on metal sound, almost a sputter sound when accelerating from 2000-3000 rpm.

Re: sounds on 2000rpm/2500rpm

I have the same thing noise. except my "buzzing" happens every time i accelerate. i took it in to Honda when I still had a warranty and they speculated that it could be rocks on the heat shield rattling around when significant vibration occurs or something like that.

So I took my sister-in-law's civic for a spin to compare noises (05 ex sedan, same as mine, from the same factory: denver, about a month apart). it turns out her civic sounds the same as mine: buzzing upon acceleration...

I still complain that it sounds like some kind of pressure leak, which is accompanied by a brief "ring twirling/winding down" sound upon high rpm up-shift.

EDIT...and it's they both are autos.
