Auto Transmission Rebuild (pics)
I thought some of you would like to see what the 2nd gear clutch pack looks like when it’s dead. Note the blue and black friction disks which have no material left...
This is 4th. Notice no discoloration

Here is 2nd:

Disassembled:

Side by Side good and bad disk:

Sorry for the not so good pics, I don’t have my digicam rite now so I had to use my phone. I am rebuilding the transmission btw, not a shop. It was HondaLuver's before his swap.

Here is the ATF filter, check out the black gunk around the edges of the screen. I wiped the center of it clean with a rag.

Here is where im stopping till I get the TCI overhaul kit and some OEM honda parts that I ordered.

i would recommend getting the oem external filter kit. I've seen it on ebay and after seeing that filter, its a must or the new one will get messed up too.

HAHAH I would really like it to shift quicker but this is for my GF's car so I can't have as much fun. At least the TCI overhaul should help a bit.
When I reinstall it im gonna get a transmission cooler and an external filter
I want this thing to last 300K miles!
I think the main reason these fail is that the clutches are so small and they slip quite a bit just making the shift smooth. Notice the older civics dont have this prob but they shift really hard compared to the 7thgen.

yea every trans shop tech tells me that its better for it to shift hard. the soft thing is not good for the trans and just some "feature" they did to make people feel better. i only have 50k and mine is slipping pretty bad 2-->3 before the fluid warms up. i've been hearing it maybe has another year left before it wont shift anymore
and i have a cooler and changed fluid every 10k miles.

LOL its a REALLY big job and will probably take me a couple weeks. I will definatly keep taking pictures but I dont know if this is a DIY type of job. Plus I wouldnt wanna be responsible if someone screwed up their transmission using my DIY.
. What I will be doing though, is once I put this in my GF's car I will rebuild her origional trans (slips pretty bad going from 1-2) and put it up for sale in socal.

if by gear rings you mean the clutch disks then yes the TCI master overhaul kit has those.
Here is an example of the red eagle clutches with the tci kit:

It's got all the clutch disks and plates. It also has all the seals o-rings and gaskets to put it back togehter. The clutch disks are what usually wears out in our transmissions.

Ok guys I have a small debate here.. I can get the OEM Honda transmission cooler for the HX CVT and the HX external filter. Or I can get A B&M cooler and external filter kit to use an engine oil filter.
Part #'s 10 and 14
http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...ry5=ATF+COOLER
OR These:

I am leaning towards this ^^ because it’s cheaper and I like the idea of the fine filter element... I dont know what the OEM filter element is.

I would try and get a B&M cooler, they will work better than oem due to design. There is an oem filter kit floating around ebay im not able to find it now tho.

I was the first to have the TCI kit installed and was boosting 16 psi along with that. if you just install that kit and fill up with redline fluid you will be good to go for many miles more. The external filter will always help but a tranny cooler I don't see any use for unless its boosted or being driven really hard which we all know the civic is slow

I checked the tranny fluid temp and it was very close to 200f so i figured a cooler could help some. (this is with it slipping)

a Honda dealership wouldnt put this over-haul kit on would they?
they wouldnt even put an aftermarket clutch on my brothers 04 vic after he completely destroyed the stock one.

^yea i highly doubt honda would even do anything. i called a local shop to see how much they would do it(performance shop) and they gave me pretty good quote of about $300.
lookin at the clutch disks and plates i have they arent too big...i hope i did get the right kit. i can grab some pics of the clutches if u guys want. anyone know how big these clutch and plates are? also does anyone know wat rpm the stage 2 of the tc upgrade from level ten is increased by? sorry if this is thread jacking
