3.5mm Aux added to factory radio - DIY

I used this company (www.enfigcarstereo.com) to install a 3.5mm auxiliary jack to my 2002 Civic EX Coupe’s factory radio. The radio has the option for the factory CD changer. Otherwise, the factory radio is a AM/FM CD player. The back of the factory radio has a unused port that the factory CD changer would plug into. Controls on the front of the factory radio allow one to select AM/FM radio or CD/Tape (I have no idea why it has the tape option). Simply select CD, when wanting to get the signal from the 3.5mm auxiliary’s jack.

- I ordered the BlitzSafe HON/AUX DMX V.1 and the iSimple IS335 Dash Mountable Auxiliary Input Adapter Also Known As PDM335 from them.
- I ordered a 6inch 3.5mm Premium 22AWG Mini-Stereo TRS Female to 2 RCA Male Cable from an online auction place.

Total cost was $82.00 plus shipping.

I wanted a short TRS Female to 2 RCA Male Cable, so I’d have less wires behind the dash.
I used an 11/32” drill bit as the final drill size hole. I started out small & worked my way up, so I didn’t drill to large of a hole and also so I could move the hole around if needed. I didn’t want to hit anything structural for the plastic molding. I taped (maybe zip ties could be used) the BlitzSafe unit between the two 8mm mounting points for the HVAC controls, just so it wouldn’t rattle around. After you drill the hole, the 3.5mm aux jack just wedges / pulls into place. I guess if you really wanted to, you could put rubber cement on the back side of the plug / HVAC controls to make sure it doesn’t pull out. If you don’t want to drill into your HVAC controls, there is plenty of wire to allow the 3.5mm port to hang down by your feet, or mount the 3.5mm port somewhere else.

Don’t forget to have your radio code handy in case you lose power to the factory radio. Also, FYI in reading around on the internet, one can reprogram their HVAC controls, so the A/C can be turned off for better fuel economy, while it is set to defrost on the windshield.
