Brightest LED License Plate Lights
Brightest LED License Plate Lights
What's up guys?
Just have a quick question about LED license plate lights.
I was driving next to an S5 the other day and he had these incredibly bright white plate lights, looked SO good! I have LED plate lights already but they're no where near as bright as the ones I saw.
Anyone know where to get lights like that?
Basically I just want to know where/how to get really bright LED plate lights. And I just want white as well. I got too much trouble from the cops when I had my blue lights in on my last Civic lol.
I found this link and these ones appear to be pretty bright, but I'd rather do on what you guys have to say first, rather than just jumping on a $25 purchase.
Thanks

Re: Brightest LED License Plate Lights
Why in all of hell would you pay $25 for 2 LED's?

Go to ebay, search up "t10 SMD LED"
You'll find plenty, and make sure they ARE SMD LIKE THESE

NOT BULB LED LIKE THESE:

LOL that's exactly why I posted here before buying them haha!
Thanks.
And yea I wouldn't get caught just picking up some of ones that you showed in the second pic.
Anyways, thanks a lot!

Also just a question, are these going to die out on me??
I've heard gearbox talking about a couple things regarding LED plate lights, and other people have mentioned that they'll sometimes flicker, causing a strobe light effect. So not that I'm putting a heck of a lot at risk with these things being less than a dollar, but I'm worried about the quality though... Just want them to last, that's all

Link to SMD Lights I installed on my reverse lights, 3 months, and they have yet to die on me
I've had my bulb LEDs in my license plate for about 1 year, no problems, and SMD LED map lights for about a year as well.
LEDs should normally last longer than halogens.
Check out the thread to see the SMD reverse lights compared to my license plate bulb LEDs

Re: Brightest LED License Plate Lights
custom nichia leds ftw. the chinese pnp led bulbs are all junk, believe me ive tried alot before giving up completely. build it yourself with quality parts and you never have to worry again. these will likely outlast the car and are brighter than any pnp bulb (50 lumens per side and around 6500K color temp).

Re: Brightest LED License Plate Lights
With a little bit of electricity knowledge, and a soldering iron lol
But to get the quality diode and the resistors, etc. will prolly run you the full $25 anyways
I honestly don't know why anyone would want REALLY bright license plate lights, because for me, the last thing I want if I get into any trouble with the law is a bright *** license plate to tell everyone who I am.
And that's why I went with bulb LEDs for them, dim and not eye catching.

Re: Brightest LED License Plate Lights
i used 6 leds total around $1 each. plus a couple scraps of circuit board i had lying around and couple bits of wire. these particular leds are hard to find, they are the 20 lumen superflux version. but any quality lo power led should work even some 5mm. ledsupply.com has a good selection. as for wiring and led stuff, hidplanet.com forums has a great led section. with basic lo power leds, all you really need is a resistor and a few leds and a soldering iron.

I just love the look of lights like that. I never thought I would until I saw them in person, it just really cleans up the look of the car, and it stands out, but not in an obnoxious way. I personally really like them haha! But we all have opinions right?

PS, thanks gearbox. I'll try it out!
