LED Bulbs shaving? (WITH PICS)
in diskreets DIY i noticed he bought bulb covers to make the light less distracting and so bright...i was reading ledautomotives buyers guide and they have these pics
Un shaved

Shaved

Now the question is....how do you cut the bulbs or "shave", seems like a good idea to have a nicely even lite dash. im asking becuase i bought 13 leds from http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b....32127&next=50
and they arent shaved...i dont want them to look so bright and be able to tell where the bulb is. i also noticed diskreets pictures showed some spot brighter which showed where the bulb was and other spots dimmer. so if anyone can tell me where or how to get the bulbs cut i would appreciate it
oh and the part is ,......T1.5 Instrument LED bulb

i used 60 grit sanpaper when i shaved mine down, but it took forever. Best way is to use a dremel with a little sanding drum down. make sure you have a few extras. the first few i shaved down too much and hit the diode.
shaving does diffuse the light a good deal. women and leds, better shaved

you can use lower grit for faster job. just sand the tops down but not too far. don't wanna damage the metal pieces inside. oh and sanding will greatly reduce the light output, altho speading it out. Just make sure you have leds that are bright enough to start with.

well they sell lil covers at superbrightleds.com that go over the led and diffuse it. or just try needle nose pliars to break the tip so its chunky. but you run the risk of breaking plastic off the led and ruining it.

yah i have those leds from ledautomotive. believe me they are not shaved or sanded down from a regular one. these are totally differnt and mines were not even close to that brightness. i have some leds like the unshaved one you posted and that thing can light up a room, but the flat head shaved ones dont put out much light, and deffinately spreads the lgiht better.

actually, it will be a plug and play kit. you remove your stock bulbs and replace with the led version, wired in a NEW socket. complete swap and you don't have to mess with soldering resistors or ruining your stock holder and bulb. the only way it will work right is if the led is bright enough, which it should be, and I may get some lens for them too.

Still working on those in white, and then maybe pink and blue.
