Brake Light Question...
Brake Light Question...
Hey, on the brake lights....when you have the lights on...without the brake pushed in....one of the filaments for that bulb is on....now that means that there are three wires that go to the bulb socket.....which wire is used when the brake is pushed in? I want to try a little project, but i don't know which wire is for what.....also...if i wanted to wire a light so that when the brake is pushed in.....this light shuts off....but when the brake is let off....the light goes back on.....how would i do that? someone please help me.....thanks.....

let say we have one light called "brake light", which lights up when you press the brake, and another called "parking light", which lights up as soon as you turn on your lights in stock and you want this light to shut off when the "brake light" is on.
how they work:
xor gate works by sending signal to the output when either one of the its inputs sends it signal. however it would not send signal to output when both or none of its inputs are on.
inverter works by sending signal to the output when its power pin is on and signal pin is off. it would stop sending signal when signal pin is turn on. and obviously it would also not send signal to output when the power pin is off.
how to wire:
xor gate has 3 pins. 2 for inputs and 1 for output. basically you wire the "brake light" and "parking light" wire to the inputs, then wire that output pin to the "parking light" bulb.
inverter also has 3 pins. 1 for constant power, 1 for signal, and 1 for output. if you get an inverter, wire the "parking light" wire for the power, then wire "brake light" to the signal, and output to the "parking light" bulb.
where to get these things:
i think you can get these at a local electronic store, but i dont' think radioshack carries these... well maybe the inverter. these are just little chips that ppl use for circuits and we often use them in my circuits class.
