I noticed this, didn't want to stick my key in it because I wasn't sure what it did. Can anyone tell me? I'm too lazy to look in the manual.

Yes it locks your trunk and gas tank so that they won't open unless you use the master key.
You may or may not have one, but my civic came with a key that has a grey head. It's the valet key. Basically it's a safety mechanism for when you take the car to valet parking, you lock it and give them the valet key so they have zero access to your trunk and gas tank. Valet keys can only unlock doors and turn the car on.
Not sure why someone one who has enough money to go to a place with valet parking would drive a civic though... :P

Only locks the trunk, not gas cap.
Word of advice: don't freak out about small **** with your car.
Edit: here in Vegas, most valet is free.. Just tip the kid..

fair enough. They have valet at some malls here, with large sections of parking garages dedicated to valet, if not a garage strictly for valet.

I remember one time, when I was on deployment, my sister was taking care of my car (and yes, I trust her with cars, seeing as how she's looked over my shoulder and asked questions about what I was doing so she could learn, but I digress). She was late for a show, so she valet'd my car. When she got my car back, dude was like "man, that's a nice suspension you got there, and is that a stage 2 clutch?" She chewed the dude out so bad that she made him cry, because I guess it sounded like dude took my ride for a spin. XD
A bit OT, but slightly related at the same time.. But I guess its fine since OP got his answer.
It was just some friendly advice.
I could have legitimately made it a lot longer, but I chose to refrain

Just get the fueldoorfix that everyone's said to get. It's the cable where it attaches to that lever
btw, that whole doorsill panel is held on with little pop clips, so either make sure they're lined up correctly to clip into the holes, or if they're absent or broken, buy some of the clips and replace them.

where do i buy the fueldoorfix? remember im in canada. And im guessing you have to pop the entire back left panels off to get to the gas cap? Not a big issue about having to use my plastic card to open it when i fill up. Looks odd yes but who cares ha.
For the side panel i dont want to remove completely cause im worried itll break the clips. I wonder where you would buy the clips to replace them. Hmm ill have to see underneath to see what kind of clips they are.
how do you take the side panel off without breaking it?

3) Gently yank. Yes. Yank it, but gently. Oxymoron? Yes. But is it the truth? Yes.
It's plastic. It'll flex. But remember, too much flex = freaking out because you broke something.

1) crazy glue wouldn't be a good idea. What if you need to take that panel off? Then you're **** out of luck and need to spend an unnecessary amount to replace the part you had to literally break off. Sure, it'll be quicker and cheaper, but potentially more expensive in the long run. Do **** right the first time.
2) No you don't

If you actually have the cable rusted/broken near the lever...? then the fueldoorfix is the best option and it will be a lasting fix.
I clipped one onto my 05 that was still working fine as a preventive measure.
Well worth the cost.
