Quick sub question?

I am looking for either one or two subwoofers. My original plan was to get two 12" subs but the funds are no longer there. I am now thinking to get two 10" subs. If I get two subs however I am going to have to get less of a sub. If I get one sub I can get a better sub but only one of course.

Is it worth it to get two lesser subs or just one good one? I am looking in the 10" and 12" range and want to spend under $200. Any suggestions?

I have a $100 infinity sub that hits hard. Used to have two of them, but it was really too loud and heavy for the car. I think you'd be happy with a good single 10 inch sub. Just make sure you match the amp so it's not underpowered.

Yeah - It's hard to know what's enough - am I really going to use the power of two subs in daily driving? It's hard to estimate when your standing in a store. Just need some opinions. $100 for a good sub would save me some good money!

yea there's a big difference between hearing speakers/subs in the store, and then hearing them once they're hooked up in ur car. i'd say go with kicker. my friend had 4 aftermarket speakers and one 10'' kicker sub in the trunk at it was bumpin. no amp either. buy an amp also tho cuz the sub is only like $60-$70

Personally, I would get one 12 over two 10s. Less room, better low end, and it would be about the same amount of sound. I have two Kicker Comp VR 12's. Its enough, but of course I want more. But yeah, I personally recommend Kicker, but Alpines seem to sound really nice as well.

I've been starting to look at the Kicker's now - I think I'm going to go with one sub though. 2 subs is going to be a little much for me. Not sure 10" or 12" - I'll have to hear it first. The original plan was to get Rockford's but I've heard that their lower/cheaper line of subs isn't so great anymore - How are the cheaper lines of Alpine and Kicker?

Blow the bank on a single 12"

Or if you can scrape up a little more, go for 2 10's.

The Kicker Comps sounded pretty good: Kicker Comp 12

As for the Alpine E line, I've never heard them, but Alpine is a good brand so I'd imagine they are pretty good: Alpine E 12

The Alpine I've heard is the R series, it was really tight and clean, I liked it a lot, I've considered switching to these: Alpine R 12

What I current have are the Kicker CVR 12's. They hit really hard ( I have 2) its not the tighest bass, but it shakes everything in the area when its turned up. I'm a big fan of Kicker subs, so I'm biased.
Kicker CVR 12

But basically, you need to hear a few different things and see what sounds like what you want. Some are really sound but not tight, some are tight but not loud, some are a good mix. it all depends on what you're going for. Also you need to make sure you get the right box (go with sealed) and an amp that will power your sub(s). If you hear someone with what you think you want, just ask them what they have. Most people take it as a compliment.

Otherwise you have to go to an audio store and listen to the different ones, and as someone else mentioned, its a lot different sounding in your trunk. But, if its your only option, then its better than nothing.

The Kicker CVR 12's will are cheap enough that I could get two! No place in my immediate area sells them so I would probably just get them from crutchfield. I do want to look at the Alpine Type R b/c a friend of mine has one and likes a lot. I would be willing to spend the $$$ if it's as good as everyone says but I would obviously only get one. I've heard the Type E sounds pretty good too! Not sure - one Kicker CVR 12 at around $90 from crutchfield would save me a lot of $$$. Thanks for the input!

I was just looking at hookedontronics.com and I've never seen prices like that before... does anybody have any comments on whether or not this site is legit?

i would go with two 10's from kicker in a sealed enclosue if it were my car. but then again..it's not. find some people that u know and try to listen to th systems i their cars and decide what u like. otherwise ur gonna have to put up with the guesswok at the store. try going to best buy. they always have helped me in the past. the people that they put in the car audio area of the store are always on the up and up. they alway seem to have the latest gear in stock and for very good prices. keep us posted.
