Vs. Mustang, Vs. new Tiburon Vs. Taurus.

Yesterday was a great day. We had a kick *** meet Saturday and everyone seemed to had enjoyed themselves. We had our food, photos, movie(s) and dinner. I stayed at the host's house until 11pm or so so all n all it was good. Perhaps later I'll share pictures.

As I was heading towards the bridge leaving Vallejo (after dropping off my friend in Napa) on 80-west I notice there's an older model (late 80s, early 90s) Mustang speeding on the freeway. I decided to catch up to him and pace him... eventually passing him and now he was pacing me. Slowing down to about 80 once we hit the bridge, the 3rd gear drop from my car is apparent and the Mustang follows... through 4th I was still in front, but as I entered 5th, the Mustang passed me nicely as I was going about 110. When the bridge ended, the race was over and woops, I have to make a turn. As I was heading towards 120, I safely took the turn just over 100, and just as expected, the Mustang slowed to an adequate speed.

On 80, I decided to pass my exit to home and hit 880-south and I took this up to San Lorenzo and turned back to get on 580-west towards home.

580 always seems to be the easiest place to find a race. Anyhoo, after cruising down it for a while at my usual 80MPH in the fast lane, I see this silver new Hyundai Tiburon cruising on the freeway at about 85 or 90 I'd say and I decide to catch up to it. I eventually got *her* attention... yes, the driver of this car was female and blonde (didn't make out the face). I made no assumptions on whether the car was a manual or automatic... and hell, I don't even know if it was a 4-cylinder or a V6. From the outcome of the race, I will assume that it was NOT a V6 due to any car I've went against with a V-engine has owned me bad. Well, here goes nothing.

As this chick was cruising down 580, taking corners quite quick, I paced her to the side for a while and took turns quicker than hers. As I slightly move ahead I get beside her (hoping she would slow down but insisted on mashing the pedal) our race started when the road straightened and we were even. Going a bit over 80 I dropped to 4th gear and it was on. Throughout the increasing speed of 4th gear, no one pulled on the other... interesting... however, my top end as I ended in 4th decided that it would be the one to pull ahead 1st. I shut down in 5th gear at around 115 and claim victory. Afterwards I slowed down and she did a flyby on a turn... I downshift again and catch up to her and decided to just get into 5th gear a bit early. On another corner she tried to take, I successfully passed her again nearing 110 and downshifted to 4th once more to pull ahead. Afterwards, there's an old white Ford Taurus that flies by us as we slow down... I decide to play with the Taurus now.

This white car housed two Hispanic guys, and their car was no challenge. However they were gay... as one guy was ahead of me, he decided to get into my lane as I was catching up to him doing over 100. I move out his way and slow down again for him to catch up and I notice that this guy is deliberately TRYING to hit me! What a sore loser. He gets left behind from his lame attempts to try to scare me.

Finally, as 580 is nearing it's end, there is a LONG straight into the San Fran and Sacramento junction. Guess who comes back for more? The Tibby comes back with a fly-by. I decide to drop to 4th again and I'm off on this long straight. This straight is approximately a mile long until it begins to curve for the freeway splits. My distance from the Tiburon is 4 carlengths at the start and the chick keeps flooring it... and doesn't appear to stop. Okay, fine... I can play this, too. We floor it and surely I'm pulling on her and I realize I am going over 120MPH in 5th gear. The freeway junction is closing in and I'm still pulling much closer to her. As the freeway junction is 1/4 mile away, I make my pass and see the male Asian passenger in the Tiburon. Get a GOOD LOOK at the new BA7Genz sticker that just owned jOO! I dunno how fast I was going when I passed it... but it was well over 120.

The turn arrives... and there is also traffic ahead on my side of the junction (the right). I end up being quite skeptical of making this turn at 120 but I surprisingly took it well by feathering the brake enough to keep control of the rear of the car while turning... and although I turned late (by not being within the boundaries of the lane I was just in) the car surprisingly handled *sweetly* at over 110 MPH... in other words I had full control of the car, but I knew any blemish in the road would definitely be a hazzard to my speed yet it was as smooth as glass. My car actually surprised ME on how well it handled! I slowed down before traffic and took my Sacramento junction as the Tiburon made it's way to the San Fran side.

Seems thrilling to win a race, be able to avoid the hostilities of the hostile environment and make it home in one piece.

EDIT: And just a question... why is it that after I push my car hard on the freeway for a while, when I get off the freeway and drive the city streets, the car seems... quicker? Is it cuz it was used to being revved a lot throughout the powerband? It's weird... the car seems to pull better after my races.

It was well after 1am so no.

I don't race through, around or into traffic. If there's no traffic and the road is familiar, I'll take my chances.

im throwin up a on this one captain. third gear at 80 = fuel cutoff = stupid idea to downshift to 3rd. just plain top end racing in our cars is stupid.

thats my opinion on this one.

80MPH fuel cut off in 3rd gear???? My car has reached from 86MPH and once to 90MPH going uphill in 3rd gear at 7,000 RPMs where the fuel cuts off. If I downshifted to 3rd and hit the rev limiter I'm sure I would've mentioned that but it's not like I would deliberately shift into redline territory (as you said, fuel cut off right? That didn't happen in my case.) At any rate, if I were to race my own car with my mods and that car downshifted to 4th while I went to 3rd, the car that goes to 3rd would win whether the race started from 60MPH or 80MPH. It's not like the Civic has torque you know, but I'm not trying to convince you anymore.

And your opinion is your opinion. Fine with me.
