help with skunk 2 coilovers
i recently had a shop install skunk2 coilovers for me and the ride quality is pretty good. however, i noticed a clanky noise whenever i turn. is there anyway to fix this? i know a girl who had the same problem with skunk2 coilovers but when she got her bodykit and raised her car a little bit the problem went away. also i noticed that the steering has gotten stiffer. i dont know if this is due to the extra weight of the rims that i also had put on today or if its because of the coilovers. is there any way to fix this problem as well? any responses would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

thanks for the response joe. i was wondering if ur talking about the noise or the stiffness of the steering. i can live with the stiffness but the noise really annoys me. i read somewhere on this forum that its because of the control arm. u can read about this here.

stiff is how skunk springs ARE. the noise is the spring moving around on its perch. try adjusitng the height and see if that helps.
hey tuff jsut liek joe said it is beacause they are new and trying to settle i have them too. to avoid the noise jsut turn ur radio up that is what i do sometimes but it will go away ok.
MAN, MY SKaNK2 COILOVERS ARE HORRIBLE. THEY ARE BOUNCY LIKE A MOTHER.
AT FIRST IT WAS OK...BUT JEZUS MAN, MY CAR IS LIKE A TRAMPOLINE !

U THINK I GOTTA REPLACE THE SHOCKS FOR THESE ? ANYTHING ?

well if u lower the coils all the way down then it is going to be bouncy as he11 but i raised mine tot he top it still looks lowered and the ride is much better. i had mine lowered all the way for a few months then i blew my front right strut so im waiting to get the money and either get a new strut or konis or a full coilover kits.
well it took about four days BUT the other week i got bored when i had my car jacked up i messed with the rear coils and now they are started to squeak again. i think that they are squeaking against the sleeve part so im going to shoot some wd-40 on there tomorrow. but my front dont squeak just the back right.

thanks for the response acekicker. im not sure if we're talking about the same noises. mine doesnt make a sqeaking sound...it makes a clanking sound like metal pots hitting each other except for not as loud. so i dont think its the springs settling in but the control arm rubbing against another metal thing (i dont know what its called). the stock ones were good in the way that they had bearings to prevent the rubbing but the skunk2's designed is flawed in the way that there is nothing to allow the control arm to rotate freely. as squeaking is concerned, mine dont squeak at all.

another problem i'm having with the coilovers is that whenever i complete a right turn, the steering drifts to the right and when i complete a left turn, the steering drifts to the left. this problem annoys me the most since i have to continually correct the steering while on a straight road. do u guys think that the problem will be fixed if i get a wheel alignment??? thanks in advance.

its possible that it might be an alignment thing, but my guess would be it only leans one way rather then both left/right... not to scare you or anything but maybe its something else such as a broken cv boot or tie rod end. maybe try jacking the front of the car up and see if the wheels have play going from left to right(facing the tire). i dont even know if it does normally tho..

i'm pretty sure this will solve my problem of the noise but i'm not sure which size to get the coil isolators in. anyone know which one would fit? the stock one is too big for the skunk2 coilovers and it'll just slip off. thanks for all your help.
